has anyone had a their baby born with a high resperitory rate?
I had my little boy on Thursday. He was 9lbs 6oz. A few hours after he was born he started breathing really fast. they had to take him to the level 2 nursery. He's doing a little better but there still hasn't been much improvement and it's monday and they still don't know what's wrong with him. I don't know what to do I just want my baby to get better. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them and what was the diagnosis and outcome. He also swallowed a little meconium and right now that's what they are saying is wrong but he's just not getting better.

It takes awhile with the meconium. Probably they will do a chest xray to make sure he doesn't have pneumonia. They may do antibiotics too. If it persists or are concerned ask about a cardiology consult, or pulmonology. I had a bigger baby 8-6 that was tacky (fast heart rate) and he went to special care too. He ended up having pneumonia, and a pulmonary stenosis (narrowing of pulmonary artery), and a benign PFO-patent foramen ovale (hole in the heart). Cardiology did see him and did an echocardiogram which is an external u/s of the heart. Nothing really was done, he came home day 6 without any special care.

I don't really know what to say, because I have never been there, but I am praying for you little one.
