Anniversary of my roomate's mom's passing...?

So, my roomie/my best friend mom passed away almost 2 years ago. The anniversary of the event is coming up, and I'm perparing for a pretty rough day. I've never been too good with helping with people deal with loss and I was hoping for some advice.

When we moved in together we went threw her storage of all of her and her sister's stuff from their mom's old house (to use as furniture for our house) that was packed shortly after her passing . We came across all of her mom's old recipies in a recipe tin; I was thinking that on that day we would make something from that recipe jar. Is this a good idea or not?

You are a good friend for thinking of this. You had a great idea. Bring it up. If she's game be prepared to make a day out of it. Go to the market for the needed items. When you prepare the recipe you might want to ask the sister if she wants to join. You can go to the gravesite and have a picnic there or stay home and go thru her family's photos and let them share anything they want to share about their mother.

    Really nice idea.

That sounds like a really good idea, especially if your friends and her mom used to cook together. It could be a very emotional time, so be prepared, but letting emotions out is a good thing.
