A lot of conversations I've had in my life seem to indicate that people generally think?

Question

that men are shallow and are only interested in a girl's appearance while women care about a guy's personality and aren't hung up on looks so much.  There are a lot of posts on here that would suggest exactly the opposite.  Of course, there is some truth in both arguments.  Some men and women are hung up on looks, other men and women are not.  My question is, do you think, in general, that when picking someone to date, are men or women more influenced by looks or is it pretty even?

i think it's about 70-30 leaning towards men. men are visual creatures, ya gotta admit. women are more shallow when it comes to how much money a man is bringing in. seems like everyone has an agenda these days.....

I think that we all are driven by the looks when we first encounter the opposite sex/same sex. That is all we have to go by you don't meet people and say boy you have a great personality, so we divert to looks. How does this person dress, talk, express themselves is there a likeness to the way I act? Now we might feel an attraction to someone over the look and that has to do with science we are animals and our most primal urge is to procreate at some point so we are attracted to people who have close compatibility to us and give us the greatest chance to reproduce. 

But to stay on track I think that women and men knowingly pick a potential suitor based on the physical. I guess we are all shallow in some sense, but the attraction to looks fades after a while and then we get to know the real person (thus arguments and fights). At that point we start to feel emotions and decisions are based on that not the looks.

i'm pretty sure that everyone knows inside the majority of us are as shallow as one another.  Men are shallow, but women are shallow too-- only it's acceptable because we discuss it over coffee while they do it over beer (stereotypically, of course).  Of course not everyone follows this as people can be totally just into the individual-- but I would say that everyone is equal on the judging a person by their looks thing.

i think at first it may be about looks, but then they get to know the person, then i think personality is mostly what its about
