Would adults like to see YA create a Books & Authors section for the over 21 set?

Clearly, the Books and Authors section on YA is mislabeled. It is actually "Teen/Children Lit: Surveys, Homework and Writing Help."

As roughly 95% of the posts seem to come in three sizes: Twilight and/or Vampire Poll, Homework Question, and please critique my great writing/vampire novel for me. As such, it would be redundant to create a separate section for children's literature, as this is all ready here.

It is always wonderful to find the off post that is an actual question; is about a book or author; and the answers come with a link and perspective that informs both the asker and the audience - it is the rare find when that question is not targeted to children's literature (twilight/harry potter) or is a homework question.

Would the grown-ups, who are the minority on YA Books and Authors, enjoy a separate section about books and authors for Adult Fiction and Nonfiction Books and Authors - or - is it fun/hepful to see what the kids are up to and no big deal to have a separate site?

Yes it would be nice. However, I think they won't do it as 80% of the people on this site are under 20. I have found that kids want you to do their homework for them in no matter what section you are in.

There are times when I think this site should be titled, 'please do my homework for me because I am lazy' instead of 'answers'.

Yes, I also do not post answers here because I have had the experience of mis-matched levels of comprehension. I was unaware of the teen population here, and responded three times to questions about books and authors with my full consideration. Each time, a teeny bopper either flagged my answer as a thumbs down, because I suggested a book that was not children's literature or the teen/child asking the question did not have the maturity to understand my answer - let alone their own question! LOL!

So, I learned not to post here after having deleted 3 of my answers. I do not fault teens for being teens. I raised four of them to adulthood. I simply would like something that is not an amazon review of a book that allows you to ask questions at a certain level of sophistication and receive an equally matched in sophisticated answer. Like Bob, I do just love to read the odd post from the grownup who still posts here. I learn a lot from them and enjoy the writing and perspective. So, another yes here, but also, all the teens would follow the grownups and still demand that we do their homework, poll twilight, or critique their vampire novel vote, too.

It would stop a lot of sarcastic answers and answers that all out demand a stupid response. Sometimes it is close to impossible to be considerate when answering a question because the poster is dense in the extreme.

It would stop funny answers and answers that have grit or thought or intellect in them from being flagged as abuse by Bunny the teenwonder and her friend Benny the all-knowing ignorant adolescent.

I think it is a noble and worthless quest you are on here. Answering a question with your full consideration and intellect only to get your account suspended for not using terms that were one-syllable and pretty is simply a part of posting in this section as much as attracting trolls in the News section or having teens thoughtlessly espouse their parents vapid political views on the politics page.

Eliza Doolittle sang it best, 'Wouldn't it be loverly!' I won't hold my breath, I will hold half my brain back, and I will only use simple and pretty words. Now, type that 100 times and get back to sifting for the meat and potatoes that make YA a daily gift of humor, perspective, information, experience and help.

Edit: On second thought, if you could convince YA that they would make more money for their advertisers by having pages geared to specifically adults or specifically children, it might just work.

  • At this point, I know Yahoo won't bother. It'll never split the category.

Just as they barely bother to review suspensions, or complaints about the review process. Yahoo has set up a system that encourages endless fan club chat, encourages the homework seekers (do your own homework replies got me bounced this time), and seem determined to drive all adults from the area.

I'm still contemplating which is more amusing getting a "best answer" for the same answer that got one screen name bounced or that same account receiving 102 Best answers, after being bounced.

eh, a this point I;d be ashamed to crack the top ten, no one with an ounce of self respect could make it.

If we ever did get a section for children's literature, I doubt that Twilight fans would ever use it. They're too proud and think that Twilight is for adults and is wonderfully written. Some Harry Potter fans might use a children's lit section, though some also might argue that Harry Potter is for all ages, including adults.

Though yes, I do agree that a children's lit section would be quite helpful:)

I'd like that. In fact, I'd like all of YA to have divisions for all members and some only for adults.

I like young people, quite a bit. I miss the teenagers our own kids were fairly recently. I answer teens' questions here daily, as honestly as I know how. I'd still do that. I don't even mind that most of the book questions are about one of two book series. It's great that they're enthusiastic about reading something (even if it's rarely the assigned reading).

But I'd sure like to talk writing or books with people who read and write about adult interests. I don't get to very often.

    Yes, for three reasons.

I would enjoy reading about the 99.9% of novels and non-fiction books that are not Twilight, but are still Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

It would be safe to discuss adult histories and spy novels without having to worry about Teen Tom missing your point or Teen Tammy flagging you for abuse because you used the word obtuse.

The people who do respond to adult questions here are damn interesting. I learn a lot from them. They are very, very rare. It would be good to read questions about Mocking Bird, 1984 and the rest - that are not homework questions supplying answers that are above the questioners comprehension level.

Whew! Thank you for letting me get that off my chest. I do not post here, but would enjoy reading here more if there was a section, even a small one for grownups. Yes.

Yes, it would be nice, but it would be hard to control. Before you know it, it would be overrun by Twilight Vampires eat DaVinci Code Wizards questions and we'd be back where we started.

Yes, but even more so I would like Y!A to develop a subcategory for writers.

It might be cool even if I'm not 21 yet (I'm 20)
