Do I have a right to be angry about this?
My band director chooses section leaders for the next year. I am the only soon to be senior left (the other one is drum major). The freshman who came up this year went out against me, and she won out.
He told me that the ONLY REASON he chose her over me was because her application was more thorough, but I could still be section leader because I have all the qualities.
Hello? I am a JUNIOR. I have more experience when it comes to marching band, and yet he chose a freshman because she wrote more words on a piece of paper than me? How unfair is that? Am I being immature about this, or do I have a legitimate right to be angry?
If you were a teacher, wouldn't you want the student with the MOST EXPERIENCE leading the team?

I don't know, I was in bad for 7 years and every now and then the younger students got higher roles than the older ones. If her app. was more complete than your's it shows she pays more attention to detail and would like wise do the same for the band. A section leader is someone who can effectively leade the section without getting angry about little things like this and causing drama for the group.
It's not a big deal. The director said you could still be the section leader, didn't he?

Ugh! That stinks!!!!!!!! Yeah... you have every right to be angry. RIGHTS, don't have much to do with it though. If you are angry, you're angry, tell the world to deal with it!!!!!!!
Immature would be crying in a corner moaning that you are so much better than her, why didn't you get it. That would be immature. To be angry, and ask the director why he chose her, was mature, and brave. YOu should tell him that you think you are more qualified to be band director, and list your reasons. DOn't do it in public where the girl can hear, because that would be not only rude, but really really mean to practically tell her to her face that you think you're a billion times better than her. Maybe take him aside after school, and tell him.
Good luck with that!

I think you should get over it. Doesn't matter if she's a freshman, the band director does what he thinks is best for the band. If it's choosing someone that's a freshman then so be it.
