How can I start a babysitting business?
I need some extra cash and I thought about babysitting. I love children and seem to do really well with them. My mom says I am like a magnet to them because they are always coming up to me whether they know me or not. Children have always been a big part of my life and I plan to go to school to be a special education teacher. I am only 17 but I would like to start a babysitting business, just a small one. How would I go about starting one?

I am not a parent, nor have I ever been a babysitter, but I have known some of both and have gathered some things. I googled a bit as well.
You may want to check out sites like http://www.sitters.com/ and set up a profile promoting yourself and your abilities. Craigslist and the like may be good too.
Create a resume. I know you are "only 17" and may not have much as far as work experience yet, but you can put any that you have on there. You can also put information about school (classes your in, overall grades, etc). Mention your plans to be a spec. ed. teacher! I CAN say that I chose my doggie sitter partially because of her plans and interests in animals. Anything you can put on there to show responsibility and a genuine love for what you are doing will help greatly. More than anything, parents want to know that the babysitter is babysitting, not making out with her boyfriend and watching bad things on TV.
Gather personal references and, as you progress in your career, business references. Aside from clients, Teachers, Coaches, Neighbors, etc. Try to get more than just your mom. Of course she thinks your great. She's your mom! ;) Of course, don't hand these out with your resume unless specifically requested and don't use someone as a reference without asking them first. Just let prospective clients know that that you have references available upon request.
You may want to look into taking CPR and/or other first aid classes. Mom's and Dad's love to know that, if something happens, their little munchkin is in capable hands.
Good luck. I am not the babysitter type, so I commend anyone who can do it.

You love babies, and thats the best place to start. Just start, at home or any where you like. People, probably your clients, will tell you their expectations and the authorities concerned will tell you what is required. If you are motivated enough, you will get everything fixed in due time and at the same time have a thriving business. Good Luck!

you are lucky that kids are indeed attracted to you. the best you can do is to first advertise your intended business in your town and look for a convenient site safe for kids and lastly be confident in everything you do
