I keep getting this pop up on my lower right toolbar that says, "Warning-Virtual memory to low".?

I have gotten new Ram recently, plus i defragg and do the scan disk quite frequently. I have a whole lot of icons on my desktop..could this be why i am running low?

Thx in advance.

Update:

Thank you all for your solutions. Maybe this will help you to help me also. I am on XP, and i did as someone suggested by going to my computer. I'm not sure what to change it to. This is what is says:

Initial size mb 336

Max size 672

Nothing is clicked in "System Manage Time" or "no paging file"

Under Paging file for all Drives, it says:

Minimum allowed: 2Mb

Recommended: 1053 Mb

Currently Allocated 428 Mb

I have no clue what i should change it to. Could you help me just one step further by adding your recommendations? Thank you all again.

    Hi CJ,

You need to change the Initial Size to 512 and Max size to 1053 as recommended. Then Click Set.

Once done, Click OK and Exit.

    Update with results..

If you are getting a Virtual Memory Low message, it means whatever you are running (applications etc) is eating up all the existing memory.

1st of all, Click Start -> Run type msconfig

    Go to Startup Tab.

Here un-check any of the applications which u seem unnecessary at start-up specially messengers, iphones applications etc.

Restart your computer confirming the same. This will stop the loading of unnecessary programs at startup and help a lot.

Additionally, you can also increase the Virtual memory of your system.

    Follow the below mentioned steps:

    1. Right Click on My Computer Icon, select Properties.

    2. Click Advanced. Under Performance, click Settings.

    3. Click on Advanced Tab, Under Virtual Memory click "Change".

    4. Select your root drive (default C), select Custom Size and set the minimum Value as how much your actual RAM is and the maximum value as twice your RAM.

Eg: if you have 1 GB of RAM, min value will be 1024 & max value will be 2048. You can also increase the same depending on capacity of your Drive Space.

Try these and update with results.

    Wireless..:)

Desktop icons have no bearing memory. Toolbar icons do. Toolbar icons are minimized running programs. Try not having so many programs running at once for so long. Reboot computer more often. Windows 95/98 had these problems more so then newer editions.
