Power adapters - am confused which one to get...?

I have an indan electrical gadget and want to use in the USA - so looked for an adapter online, however i do not know whether to look for adapter converter or just an adapter would suffice... can someone please help - What do i buy to make my gadget work and where ?? Links are always welcome!

    The simplest is to get a 110V-to-220 V transformer, with a watt rating at least as high as your gadget.

    don't look for an adapter it on ly changes the plug style and not the voltage requirements, converteer is solid state only for resistive loads bulbs, curling irons etc. Transformer 220-110 Vac is safe in either case. Buy a higher wattage rated transformer than necessary always safe.
