Tricare Prime Health Insurance question?

My husband is in the Navy and we have Tricare Prime health insurance. He is stationed in Maryland and I was living in Philadelphia. So because of that they gave me a primary doctor in my area and was able to go to a OB/GYN that accepted Tricare without having to get referred. Now I recently moved down to Maryland with him. Does that mean I need to contact Tricare about switching my primary doctor?

Also, not to get too personal but I need to make an appointment with an OB/GYN down here soon and I'm not sure how to go about it? Do I just call any ole' office that accepts Tricare or do I have to get referred to one by Tricare themselves? I'm so confused. Please help. Thanks in advance!

You need to contact Tricare ASAP about switching providers and you will need to get referred to an off-post physician. You cannot just walk into an off-post office, you have to be referred first.

Yes, you have to call to switch your PCP, and that can take 24 - 48 hours. If you are on a military facility, they should assign you to a clinic. When they do that, you call the appointment number they have given you and tell them what the doc appt is for - they should schedule you accordingly.

Call tricare with your questions tho - sometimes they can confuse anyone.

Call Tricare for crying out loud. If you have a question about them, you need to talk to them. Simple.

With no preexisting conditions, including maternity, it's going to be damn expensive on the private market - budget $400 a month, or even more. You're going to need something valid in YOUR state, so go talk to a local insurance broker to find out what your options are.

Yes, you need to do that ASAP, right now in fact.
