I hope the "happy athiests" son or daughter doesn't run afoul of the law...that would be a sad day, since he thinks they should all be "executed".

God is the "god of second chances" in many ways...all of those who profess faith have been "condemned to death" for their past sins; and all have been "forgiven, redeemed, transformed, and rehabilitated" through the unmerited love and favor of God, through Jesus Christ.

We are to give what we have received...a second chance.

It would not be wise to put a person convicted of sex crimes in charge of the junior high church retreat, of course. Much oversight would be required...but if a good mentor can be found, the church should be an active participant in the practical "rebuilding" of the lives of prisoners and their families. Sadly, this is not the rule, but there are occasions where it works...Praise God for that.

If the inmates are fellow brothers and sisters in Christ then we should certainly not neglect to help them get on their feet. (James 2:14-18)

Even if they are not believers it is good to help people. Actually helping people is one part of worship. (Hebrews 13)

    So yes, definitely.

legitimate? more than that. all Christians are called to do good in society.

it probably requires a lot of hard work to help inmates though, and anyone who did that would have to think about their own safety as well.

Yes. It is well within the boundaries of love the Christ taught us and love is what God wants of us.

We lock them up in prison because they have committed crimes and moan and groan when these men and women re-offend. Therefore my strategy is simple - execute them all. As they contribute absolutely nothing to society.

Source(s): Some figures I have seen: 60% of prisoners re-offend within 2 years in the UK. 40% of prisoners re-offend within 2 years in Australia. 90% of youth offenders re-offend in New Zealand (youths make up 50% of all prisoners in New Zealand.)
