ive never owned one and but ive taken care of them. there just a dog but not ugly like yokies or chiwahahas. any dog can become violent it depends on how you treat them and how u socialize with them/how much affection you give it and how well you train it.

Joe, hun. Have you no experience with dogs at all?

    1. Chickoa is a Siberian Husky, actually. I wouldn't stoop so low as to actually BUY a Wolf mix from a breeder - let alone illegally own one.

    2. Next time, use personal message if you want to bring up my dog. It's not a public issue - and there's no need for you to make it public. That's a cry for attention and trolls, and it's very immature.

    3. Wolf "hybrids" are more prone to become violent with both humans *and* dogs - as apposed to the APBTs tendency against dogs, and the GSDs tendency against strangers. They aren't domesticated animals - and it DOESN'T make you "cool" to own one. When you wind up with a few thousand dollars in hospital bills and file for dept due to your inability to properly care for, train, socialize, and dominate over these dogs -- you won't look "cool". Wolf "hybrids" are more dominant than any domesticated dog -- something anyone with a few minutes of research on the internet would know.

    4. If you truly believe that a Wolf mix is "just a dog" - then you have no place owning one; heck, don't even *THINK* of owning one.

    5. 800$ for a mutt is too much, dear. Especially when you WILL be paying more in vet bills and law suits than you've ever had in your bank account.

Which just goes to show you can't tell a wolfdog from a real domestic breed of dog. Wolf Femme's dog in her icon is NOT a wolfdog.

Secondly the majority of wolfdog mixes ARE problematic which is why they are illegal to own or heavily regulated in most places. They are not NORMAL dogs, never have been never will be. If you've met some well trained ones good for you odds are they were more dog than wolf. The higher the wolf content to more likely you are to run into an animal that is just that- more wolf than dog. the fact that you think they are "just a dog" shows you are not knowledgeable enough to own this type of animal.

I will NEVER understand the urge to try and confine wild predators into house pets. There is a reason why in areas you can have a wolf dog but have to apply for a permit that your property has to pass inspection first.

I live in a state where wolfdogs are legal to own. I've even had the pleasure of talking to any of the owners who live in town. Unlike YOU they have had a lot more experience with these animals and even owners with low wolf content mixes have said there have been days where they have been reminded of their pets wild background.

And considering there is only one or two states that for god knows what reason see wolfdogs as just your average domestic dog the rest however do not and unlike when a dog bites wolfdogs don't get a SECOND chance. Its a guaranteed death sentence if you can't convince the courts to allow you to send the animal to a sanctuary.

It is not a good idea to mix wolves with domestic dogs. There are some that can be domesticated and some that cannot and will maintain the wild nature of the wolf. For those that do exhibit the dominant trait of the wolf, their lives can be miserable because irresponsible people will set them lose in the wild. Without the training of the pact when they are pups, they will and do suffer tremendously from inefficient hunting skills and bloodthirsty hunters.

But they are NOT good pets.. many of them still have the instincts in a wolf, and can be unpredictable. Ive met a few wolfdogs, and they had the worst temperment I had ever seen.

They are not "just a dog".. they are not a dog, but they are not a wild animal either.. its just irresponsible to breed them.

Looks like you dont know what you're talking about. I've seen Wolf Femme's avatar.. it is obviously a HUSKY!

Just because people overprice them, does not mean $800 is a good price.. its still too much to pay for a mongrel.

I hate to agree, to many people still believe in the "Lil Red Riding Hood" nonsense. I have rescued for many years and depending on socialization, training and attention they are the best companions a human can ask for. The problem is to many people think it is smart to own one - they are in for a surprise.

People bred the intelligence down in order to control their dogs. When you get a wolfdog their intelligence is higher and in to many times, higher than the humans. That is when the problems begin.

My 4legged companions are my world, they give me more than any human could possibly understand. They tease (love to steal things and hide them and grin like a fool) disappointed when I find it, there when I am feeling blue, share laughter then I find something funny, like to play when i want to, and just share life with me.

Vicious, no basically unless socialized they fear humans - will never make a guard dog unless they are very low content mixed with an aggresive breed bred for that purpose such as german shepherd or other breed.

If you know their body language-which by the way speaks volumes-you will know just what they are thinking and proceed from there.

Personally I wouldn't want to own a wolf hybrid...are any wild animal mixed...

Every dog can be a gentle and loving pet as long as you dedicate the time and training the dog really needs.

owning one and taking care of one are two completely different things! how do you know the dog at the shelter was a wolf mix? just because it looked like one doesn't mean it is one and apparently you can't tell the difference between a wolf mix and a husky. it IS irresponsible to breed wolves and dogs. they do NOT make good pets. I have worked on them and they are not friendly at all.

  • Just because I see a Tiger at a Zoo, doesn't mean I want one as a house cat.

They are NOT dogs, they are wild animals and belong in the wild, not cooped up in some house. A mass majority of states have made them illegal, and if you are allowed to have one, you are required to have a license, and even then, you have to release them back into the wild.

Rayven, as usual, said it best.

And walking a wolf hybrid at a shelter is a long way from handling and understanding one.
