South Bend Indiana what to see?
I'll have an evening in South Bend Indiana. What should I see? What local restaurants are really great? I may not get in after 5 so that preludes the studebaker museum and collage football hall of fame as they close at 5.

You NEED to check out the South Bend Chocolate Company while you're there. I went there when I visited and it is to die for! Here's a map and the restaurant's website, respectively:

At that time of day/evening I'm not sure a lot of non-restaurants will be open. I looked up the Zoo site and it is 10-5. I'm not sure about the Chocolate Factory but the lnk below gives the telephone number where you can find out.
The city has a lot of nice architecture, the courthouse, Morris Civic Auditorium. The Century Center to the north of the Football HOF is by noted architect Phillip Johnson.
The riverwalk is pretty cool with waterfalls and rapids. The East Race is a kayak run designed for the US Olympic Team training. It is possible there may be a show at the Morris, or the Civic Opera House a few blocks west and north.
So that mostly leaves the restaurants.
But the Chocolate Cafe is open late and is next door to the Football HOF.
If you have the chance the most awesome restaurant in the city is Tippecanoe Place. It is in the Studebaker Mansion. It is on Washington west of downtown. It is a little pricey but not outrageous for what you get, and very much worth the experience. And the architecture of the house is unbelieveable even if you decide not to eat there. Be sure to take a peek at all levels - this alone will make your night! 620 West Washington Street, 46601. Reservations are recommended 574-234-9077
There is a bar place in the lobby of the Century Center due north of the Football HOF that is decent if you're looking to stay downtown.
Two notable places across the river:
The Emporium on the river has a pation that may be open though as cold as it is this week it may be all indoor dining. Take Western east across the river which becomes Jefferson and it will be on your left. 121 S Niles Ave, 46617
Macri's Deli has a restaurant that is not bad, reasonable fare. 214 N Niles Ave, 46617
Another place I have not been to but heard very good things about is the Morris Inn on the Notre Dame Campus. It has a restaurant called Sorrin's and a bar called Leahy's. Link is below.

The Potawatami Zoo is a great place to visit. It's my favorite attraction in South Bend.

Well, there are a lot of WILD EYED GEEZUS FREAKS at the Univ... You can spot them easily, they INSULT PRESIDENTS OF THE U.S. and they SPOUT THEIR IDIOTIC RELIGIOUS CRAP to anyone who will listen.
