Mama Jamie's Alphabet Of Punk returns! (Let me hit your "G" Spot.)?

Well I know it has been a month since I have done my punk alphabet, but here it is with 'G'.

Enjoy.

=)

The Germs many of you probably know about...They formed in 1977 in Los Angeles, CA. They were only around for a short time, since their vocalist Darby Crash died of a heroin overdose. But 1977-1980 was enough to name them a very influential punk band.

They HAVE reformed with the other original members, but with Shane West (the actor) as the new vocalist...

Government Issue is a hardcore punk band formed in 1980 in Washington, D.C. They had many band member changes before they broke up in 1989, the only original member being the vocalist. He went on to forming other bands.

Other "G" bands to check out

GBH also known as Charged GBH, but I'll use GBH haha

Gang Green

"19th Hole"

Generation X (with Billy Idol)

G.I.S.M

"A.B.C. Weapons"

More "G" bands

(A) Global Threat, Ghost Mice, Gallhammer, Gogol Bordello.

So here are my questions;

1. Which do you prefer? The Germs or Government Issue?

2. If you had a chance to listen to the other bands, which out of all of them is your favorite?

3. Your Personal favorite 'F' band?

Thank you everyone, as always your input is greatly appreciated. Take care you guys!

=)

Update:

NOOOO!

On #3 I meant "G" band!!

Update 2:

Your personal favorite 'G' band doesn't have to be punk!

Update 3:

Jeeze, I'm a big mess...

THIS is Gang Green!

Thanks Doug.

Update 4:

I just don't like Green Day, Sal.

First off, Green Day isn't punk...so I would imagine the statement your making is just that. They're an alternative rock band that listened to punk. Big difference. The only thing punk about them is that they continue to make records despite it pissing me off.

Now, thank you thank you thank you for posting this. I guess all the time I spent exiled from this place prevented me from participating.

Love The Germs, thank you for posting them. Who said punk rock can't have great lyrics, or that it's all simple songs? I wish I could have seen them in their time...however, Shane West? Really? Fronting The Germs? I have a problem with bands reforming without core members. Just isn't right, nor the same.

Government Issue...out of all the D.C. bands they've always been one of my favorites. Teenager In a Box is like getting sawed in half. Great stuff.

Was unaware of GBH, but I'm glad you posted the link. Loved them. I'll be picking up some records.

Gang Green is another good pick. The quality on that vid makes my ears bleed, but a good song nonetheless. They've been on my to do list for a while and I think you've bumped them up.

Generation X. Yeah...I've never liked Billy Idol and I didn't like him with Gen X. Just seems contrived to me, I don't know. My own taste I guess.

G.I.S.M. - Sounded like Black Beard fronting a punk band. Never heard them before, but not a fan after that song.

    The Germs

    GBH

    Eh, I'm not really sure.

Anyway, thanks again. Hope to see this again in the future. This is the kind of Q I was hoping to see upon coming back.

YES, FINALLY. Glad you decided to continue this.

    1. The Germs!

    2. Generation X is already one of my favourite bands, but if I were to pick a band out of the other three, I think i'd go for Gang Green.

    3. Either Gang of Four or The Germs, can't really decide.

Thanks Heaps for sharing these great bands. Oh and sorry for asking this question every time but umm your opinion on Good Clean Fun? I mean I know the whole positive message thing was a load of ****, but I think their music was pretty good.

The Germs, a favorite punk band of mine. The Melvins do a very nice cover of Lexicon Devil -- though it doesn't appear to be on youtube.

I'm still working my way through all of this, (and will have to work my way back through the alphabet as well), but thanks for this wealth of information.

    Questions!

    1. the Germs

    2. Ghost Mice

    3. Godspeed You! Black Emperor

though I've been listening to Grizzly Bear a ton recently.

    1. The Germs

    2. I love Ghost Mice. I know they're all folky and hippie-like, but I'm from Oregon.

    3. Gorilla Angreb! The are a Danish punk band that are strongly reminiscent of X, but not in a rip-off kind of way. They are really, really good.

    Ghost Mice <3

I love their split with Andrew Jackson Jihad

    1. The Germs

    2. GBH

    3. As far as G goes, I'm gonna say Gorilla Biscuits as far as punk goes.

Outside of punk, however, it's gonna be God Is An Astronaut or Godspeed You! Black Emperor

I've been waiting for a while for this.

    1. The Germs

    2. Gang Green. I also liked GHB's Sick Boy

    3. It looks like Gallows because Guns n' Roses is about to come off my all-time top five list. For F in punk, I think I'll go with Flipper

I assume your non-inclusion of Green Day was some sort of big statement.

    1. The Germs

    2. Generation X

    3. Green Day or the Gaslight Anthem
