ipod isn't connecting/can't be recognized by my computer?

i have the old ipod mini. the wire was working fine for a while, but it randomly wouldnt sync or even be recognized by my computer. ive always downloaded new versions of itunes and their updates. the weird thing is that it still charges the battery. has this happened to you? any suggestions on how to solve this problem? (other than buying a new one)

    Control panel > Add/Remove Hardware > Scan for new Hardware

    They may ask you to browse the hardware manually IF they fail to do so. That's pretty normal. You can try search "it" in My Computer. Still fail, "off" your computer, plug in your ipod and switch it back on. This reboot may help.

    reset it unplug ipod from computer and press menu and the center buttons at the same time until the apple appears.

    restart your ipod I guess.
