The first driver to win on the 2.5 mile track was Mark Donahue in a USAC Indy car in 1971.
The track opened as a 3/4 mile dirt track I believe in 1968

The first race on the 3/4 mile oval was held on May 4th, 1969,
The first race on the 2.5 mile trioval was on August 3rd, 1971, a USAC Indy car race. Mark Donahue won that race. NASCAR Winston Cup started racing there on August 4th, 1974.
