Spirituals are closer to the blues in meaning that ***** spirituals expressed the pain and sorrow of many enslaved Africans of the Americas. Later it translated the pain of Black Americans and helped evolve the music genre Blues. Gospel music expresses Christianity principles and beliefs, doesn't genrally express a specific peoples grief.
