1998 Mitsubishi Galant Transmission problems - NEED HELP?

My girlfriend ownes a 1998 Mitsubishi Galant ES with 139000 miles on it. It recently begun acting up as soon as I changed the oil on her car manually. The engine shuts off sometimes when she puts her foot on the brake at stop signs and red lights. I noticed that when it doesnt shut off, the engine gets exceptionally weak when pressing the brake.

Also, the transmission shifts really hard when going from 1st to second gear and from 2nd to 3rd (car is an Automatic by the way). Any suggestions on what is wrong?

Perform computer box reset by removing the battery connection for at

least 10 minutes... if this won't help, check the following:

    1. Spark plugs

    2. Air filter

    3. Engine oil level

    4. Transmission oil level

    5. High tension wires (Wires connected to the spark plug)

    6. If carburetor type, spray carburetor cleaner spray while your engine is running, if fuel injected, mix carburetor cleaner into your gasoline/petrol.

If none of these work, see a car mechanic

If the ATF was changed and Mitsubishi SP III ATF was not used, you will have hard shifts. Only use Mits SP III ATF!!

Changed oil manually? How do you do it automatically?

Find a Mits mechanic and stay out from under the hood.
