Why do some theists not accept that atheists <don't> believe in God?
You see some people saying that atheists aren't atheists at all, but theists in denial. Whyyyy do some people do this??? it's like spitting on their words. Not only that, the theist makes him/erself look like an @$$.
If folks don't believe, then they don't believe. Why do some theists contend this???????
Ridiculous.
For the record, I'm a theist (Baha'i), but if someone says s/he's an atheist, it's like someone saying they see clouds. Biiiiig deal, whatever.

Many of them do accept the beliefs of others, even if they are different. I consider myself an Agnostic Theist. Some people may think it is a cop out or that the two concepts are mutually exclusive, but this is not true. It's fine for people to believe whatever they want, as the ends might be the same, but the path is mostly individual. This makes me think that there are people who are so brainwashed that they can't accept or even comprehend that anyone else has a different set of beliefs. Their brains are not washed clean, but instead frozen.

i assume many theists would say that i'm closed-minded. And, of direction, I believe you - that isn't any longer that i've got no longer examined the evidence to hand. Like many atheists, i'm somewhat confident in asserting that i comprehend extra relating to the Bible (e.g.) than the final public of Christians. I merely think of it extremely is a load of psychopathy and superstition. Nor am i able to assert that I shop an open suggestions that perhaps Jesus extremely WILL come back and waste each and every thing. Nor do I anticipate the different style of apocalypse as anticipated by potential of the different faith. no longer with the aid of fact i'm "closed-minded" - with the aid of fact i'm a rational person. i've got reviewed the "evidence," or lack thereof, and reached a end. If we toss that out of the window, then no one can ever have any opinion on something. If theists desire to insist that i'm closed-minded on that account, i'd merely assertion that on that argument, that is somewhat closed-minded of them to stick to their faith of selection on the rate of all others. in fact, to have faith that Jesus is God (e.g.), yet no longer Zeus, or Brahma, or Huitzilopochtli, is properly extra closed-minded than to easily relegate the whole pantheon to the area of mythology.

Its hard for an unopposed govern"mental" religion to admit defeat. Also its a way to "soften the blow" against them. (which is how they see it)
My mother (and her catholic friend) tried to convince me i was just "mad at god" but that requires belief in god, so...
But it made it easier for mom to accept, but luckily she never tried to convince me to "forgive" god (except with only one pastor visit, but he was an idiot, not because he was a pastor, he was just an idiot)
The point is a holier than thou perspective makes them believe that theism is the only correct and "logical" choice, so it is impossible for people to want to believe differently than them. While more people than just theists think like that, when you add holier than thou with senseless and thoughtlessness of evangelical thoughts you get theists blurting that people don't believe differently than they do. (they act as if they won the battle that they were the only contender and they started the fight, like the kid that says "race me there" but you refuse and he gloats when he "wins")
Its hard for them to logically portray their thoughts, so they use their egos to cloud them into thinking that they already did (and did it well).
They contend this notion because it satisfies their "glorious" past where they didn't need logic, they had military...
P.S. this is not a debate against theism, I just wish they would actually know what they were talking about and not just rely on blind faith.

Because they think that "don't believe in God" is the same thing as "believe there is no God." The latter they see as a belief system, and everyone knows that belief systems can be changed or broken. They cannot accept that you do not have a belief system.

"the theist makes him/erself look like an @$$."
That's the main reason I come here; they're a constant source of amusement.
I like how so many of them don't just embrace their ignorance.
They lower the lights, play some Barry White, and try to unclip its bra.

Some people think that their ideas are so self-evident that they are unable to grasp the concept that someone might disagree with them.

They think we're just in denial or that we blame whatshisname for what's wrong in our lives. Not cool, Christians.

I've been turning that one over in my mind for some time now.
Still haven't come up w/ a decent explanation.
