The safest way I am aware of is this

Download a bit torrent client, here's a link for you

    http://download.cnet.com/BitTorrent/3000-2196_4-10...

then type in what you are looking for on google and add torrent at the end. It will ask you to save or run. I choose run. Bit torrrent will then come up and handle everything for you. It will put your file in the download section under your user account. It's hard drive location will be something like.

    C:/Users/(your name)/Downloads

There are a range of good places to download your music and movies from, however there will always be the risk of viruses and other dangers when downloading 'free' items off the internet.

I recommed you first purchase a good anti-virus program (Norton or Trend Mirco) before downloading anything and get to know the programs so if any problems arise, you can solve them quickly.

Now to the sites.. I recommend LimeWire, which is known to be dangerous, however it does have a good range of music to download. Vuze is also a safer site. If you are after games or movies, I'd try Pirates Bay (piratesbay.org).

Although these sites aren't guarenteed safe, they offer a range of great downloads. You can also just watch movies on the internet (Novamov, Project Free TV [also movies]) which can't be downloaded but give you great choice of what you want to watch.

I am an 'old lady' too - my best advice: ask people under 30. People you work with to kids & grandkids. I bug all the youngsters at work all the time for internet advice, cell phone advice, etc. I believe it not only makes them feel important, but I learn a thing or two, also!

I just wonder if you know these sites are illegal I am aware people use them but I would advise you to use legal sites like Virgin media or I tunes OK you have to pay a little but remeber you get what you pay for so pay nothing & get problems & maybe get prosecuted, its not worth it.
