Cut my hair without my permission. Can I sue?

Ok. I got my hair done at a super wal-mart. It was for my sister's wedding. I had extensions at the time. Which cost me $100.00 bucks. But this was done by my other hairstylist. So the lady wash my hair and everything. Then when she started doing my hair she started cutting it without my permission. Not only did she cut my extensions, but she also cut my real hair. I asked her how short is you cutting m y hair and she said that she was just trimming it up and layer it. She did not asked me or anything. And she said that my hair was still very long. So she styled it and curled it up for me, It was nice I won't lie. But after the wedding. The next day when the curls fell out, My sister pointed out that my hair was actual cut short and also my real hair was cut short. I am so hurt by this because as a black woman, it took me a long time to get my hair to grow long and also that My extensions caused me $100.00 I can't stop crying. What can I do? Is this my own fault. Please help. I didn't know she cut it this short until the curls fell out, I can't go to work this upset.

You can sue, but you won't win. Damages are paid only when there's measurable damage. Having one's hair cut too short is awful (we've all been there!), but it's not permanent or even temporarily disfiguring.

The fact that you knew she was cutting and did not stop her would probably lose the case for you.

You might win if she'd shaved your head or used chemicals which caused baldness. Beyond that, though, a terrible salon job won't get you anything in court.

Which doesn't mean you're totally out of luck. When you've calmed down, visit the salon and ask to speak to the owner in private. Explain what happened and how distressed you are. Make sure you keep both temper and tears in check. Ask if s/he can compensate you in any way. They may offer free or reduced cost services, possibly even on extensions, to keep you happy.

Or not, but you won't know if you don't ask.

I definitely understand you being upset but first let me say calm down sister and think about what your true worth is. Its not based in your hair thats for sure. As far as her cutting your hair without your permission, I would definitely call the store in question and speak to management and explain exactly what happened and take it from there. Let them know how much you spent on your extensions and let them know how you want them to rectify it. Short hair can be just as beautiful as longer hair if you wear it right. I bet if you took a couple of deep breaths and went to the mirror to try out a few things you will like what you saw although it may take some getting used to. Do some soul searching and I bet your feelings about your hair will improve while it grows back out. There are others out there with so much more to worry about so consider yourself blessed:)

Oh yeah, I would also be DEVESTATED if someone would cut my hair off. I just love my hair SO much! Besides, she shouldn't do such stuff without permission!! You can sue her, but since I've never been in this situation before, I have no clue what the verdict will be!

Good luck and btw, there's a spray that helps hair grow, you can look into it!

Hope you feel real better soon!

You don't stand a chance of even getting this into court. Your hair grows back. Since that means no permanent injury or loss, a judge won't waste their time on this one. You will, however, be able to register a complaint with the principle, and they will be suspended from school for a brief period. And Ms. Executiv with her half naked body is dead wrong. Pain is not the defining factor of a felony. Since you are in school, that means you are underage. The laws are different for minors vs. adults.

awww well im not sure if you can sue but you can refuse to pay for it. and no its not your fault. you hadn't told her to cut your hair and even if you did you hadn't told her to cut it super short. even if she did it in a cute way she had no right to mess with YOUR hair without asking you first! I would be highly irate at this point if this was me. All you can do now is wait for it to grow back and make sure you are perfectly clear as to what you want done with your hair next time. :)

ok you have $100.00 extensions in your hair and you're messing around in a super walmart salon.. what were you thinking. "side note" black women have no business in salons such as these. also the moment she pulled out the sissors you should have said what are you doing and asked her to stop not allowed her to do her own thing.. good luck..
