Dog with diarrhea needs help?
I have a 16 year old dog that is having bad diarrhea. She lays in it and it is a mess to clean up. Any suggestions as to what to give her. The vet gave some pills but they did not help. She is eating and drinking water okay. I realize that she is old but I really need help to stop the diarrhea.

cooked white rice, not too much or you will bind her too much. I just had this problem with my APBT but it was because of a change in diet. as long as she is drinking and it is not the complete squirts she is fine. you can give her pepto bismal as well and it will help. this website will tell you all the info on it being safe and tell you the dosage information as well. hope it helps

I would suggest not to feed her for a day this will give her bowels time to rest. I would gradually introduce her food in smaller meals and mix some pumpkin in her food, make sure it is plain pumpkin, no spices. The pumpkin helps to bulk up her bowels. It is good she is drinking that is important. I would also go to the drug store and buy a product called pedia lite it is used for babies, it will help to restore the fluid level in her body, they usually like it, it has an apple flavor. If it is a small dog you can administer it with a syringe, also put some corn syrup on her gums this will help to boost her enery. We called it pedia lite in our Shoppers Drugmart in Canada, if you can't find it ask the pharmasist for something to replace fluids when you have diarrahea, they are usually very helpful. Good luck

white rice and boiled hamburger, but not too much. You can also give her canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling....100% pumpkin) that will help bind her up as well.
