African american hair care?

I have a foster child, beautiful little girl. I asked a coworker that is african american how to best take care of her hair. I was told never to wash it more than once every two weeks. To use oil in it every day. I currently use Africa's Best oil. We both love the smell. I wash her hair with Olive oil Shampoo and I have used the olive oil lotion conditioner when braiding or styling her hair. It seems to work better on getting the knots out. Her hair is very tight curl. I feel guilty not washing her hair more often especially if Im putting oil in it everyday. Help me so I can help her.

You can wash her hair more. Try once a week so that you can get the oil build up and dirt out taht attracts to her hair. Don't wash too much or it will dry her hair and scalp. The braiding and whatever else you are doing should be fine as long as her hair is not receding or breakin off. I could give you more advice if you have any additional info. I am african American myself. Also the products that you are using is fine.
