This is more a temporary problem. If you were recently wearing something, it may not let you delete it. Say you unpacked a folder with and outfit and you try everything on. You decide you don't like it and want to delete the whole outfit to trash. Should you accidentally not take off the shoe shape or an undershirt that has been covered by a different shirt, when you try to delete the folder, the delete option is greyed out. Even after you have removed the item you forgot to take off, the delete option is still greyed out. This is a minor glitch, but it can be cured by re-logging your avatar. When you log back in, you will now be able to delete the entire folder.

Some folders cannot be deleted. Any folder that has a little icon next to it is a Linden folder. These are folders like 'Animations', 'Body Parts', 'Calling Cards', 'Clothing', 'Gestures' and so on. You can delete individual items or sub-folders you created yourself within these folders, but not the folders themselves. Likewise, the entire contents of the Library folder is Linden content and none of it can be deleted - not the folders, nor any of the contents.

Some of your folders can become very cluttered very quickly. Three areas that build up junk very rapidly are the folders called Landmarks, Notecards and Objects. I suggest that you create sub-folders in all of these folders to store things under categories that you recognise and you at least *try* to clear out the junk once a week ... although few of us (me included) seem able to do that. One Linden employee once told me that anything over 14,000 items in your inventory may cause you problems and anything over 22,000 definitely WILL cause problems. I think I'm currently staggering around with something close to 48,000 items in my inventory, but a good part of that is hunt items I have yet to sort through, LMs and notecards that are well and truly out of date and so many junk items in my objects folder that I could probably use up a landfill for a small town.

I've had the same issue. Hitting the delete key doesn't work, but usually I can just right click on the inventory object and select delete from the pop-up menu.
