How much you want to bet I can form my own atheist cult?
Just because you do not believe in a God, does not mean you are immune to fanatical behavior.
I see how many people here say yes or no. I am hoping for lots of people in denial.
As for those who say I cannot, do not ever underestimate the power of one who is able to manipulate group think.
Lifted by God's Grace. Either you are a troll or true believer. Both is funny. I am neither a believer in any religion nor atheist. All I got is my own opinion and theory, which I wish to test.
Dude, they're called Objectivists. Everyone knows that.
not really. Most of em just traded one belief for another. Thats how they behave anyways.

Have you ever heard about guy, who started so-called "church of atheism"?! You're a little bit late.

There are plenty of fanatic non-theistic ideologies out there. Who's saying otherwise?
If it's a non-theistic ideology you want, go join the Raelians or the Objectivists, or some other group. Why try to reinvent the wheel?
And KipR: Tell me how the Church of Satan can be a cult when they make no demands on your personal life (and in fact, encourage the development of individual strength), don't allow just anybody to join, fully allow people to quit (and in fact, kick unwanted people out), and don't even have any meeting requirements. If they're a cult, then so is joining a gym.

I would take that bet. I have seen some atheists with fanatical behavior, but even those have been opposed to giving devotion blindly to a leader/figurehead, so it would be very hard for you to form a cult using such people.

This is true, and I'm sure that you can. There are those of all beliefs that will want fellowship and discussion with like-minded people.
I am just not one of them. Better ideas and logic comes fro mdiscussing with someone with different views from one's own. If I wanted that, I'd still be over in the Biology section with my TC badge.

No bet, it's been done by L. Ron Hubbard who makes no claim that his followers get their their information from any God. He says he's in communication with an extraterrestrial species. If you start a group, sign me up.

Knock yourself out. I don't doubt that there are people who can manipulate "group think". Most Scientologists are atheists, so yes, there are even atheists who can be lured into a cult.
The interesting thing here is that you claim YOU can do it. I'd be curious to see that.
Let us know when you've succeeded.

"Atheist cult."
Um, ok. Go for it. You'll be surrounded by nutters. Anyone who joins a cult is a nutter.
"As for those who say I cannot, do not ever underestimate the power of one who is able to manipulate group think."
Whoa.... you're sick.

Do it and let me know how that goes. Organizing atheists is like herding cats.
