A very complicated riddle?

You have a barrel of oil, and you need to measure out just one gallon. How do you do this if you only have a three-gallon container and a five-gallon container?

    you pour from the barrel to the three gallon container then from the 3 gallon container to the 5 gallon container. then once again from the barrel to the 3 gallon then pour as much from the 3 gallon into the 5 gallon as you can. you will be left over with 1 gallon in the smaller container

    The first answer is correct! You pour the 3 gallon into the 5 gallon then fill the 3 gallon up again and put it into the 5 and your left with 1 gallon in the 3 gallon container.

    fill up the five gallon then using that same container fill up the 3 gallon so u have two gallons left. then pour out half of whats left???
