Was anybody a violent rape victim?
I was a victim of a very violent rape about 4 years ago. Im considered a really tough female but sometimes i feel it has alot to do with how i act in everyday life. Im not ever happy in relationships and i get depressed for no apparent reason that other people can see. Nobody understands why im depressed because it looks like i have everything going for me... nice job... good money...nice house thats paid for, but then again i don`t allow people to know about what happened to me.If you were to meet me in a social crowd you could never till that something like that has happened to me. If you were a victim and you got completely past it could you tell me how to. thanks

If a report on respected TV news magazine "60 MINUTES" is to be believed, medical science has stumbled onto a cure for the psychological trauma caused by, well, psychological trauma. Specifically, the mental anguish caused to "accident victims, RAPE VICTIMS, and soldiers" [emphasis mine], can be treated with a pill called PROPRANOLOL.
Officially, PROPRANOLOL is "a medication commonly used for high blood pressure ... and unofficially for stage fright."
Memories, the report continues, are like Jello. They take time to set. And, it seems, ingredients can be added to make the memories more firm, or less firm. ADRENALINE makes the memories more firm. PROPRANOLOL has the opposite effect. It's the antidote to adrenaline.
An adrenaline rush is hard to avoid in a rape situation (or in an accident, or military battle). That makes the memories of these types of events more vivid, and longer lasting. A dose of PROPRANOLOL given at the time of the ordeal or shortly after, would make the memories less vivid, and sooner forgotten.
This was proven by subjecting lab rats to the very real rat-trauma of dropping them in a washtub of water and watching them swim around the rim, searching in vain for an exit. Eventually, they stumbled onto an unseen plexiglas platform in the middle of the tub, enabling them to walk on water, thereby giving them a Jesus Complex. But alas, their rat-sized brains are small, and the memory of where the platform is was mostly forgotten by the following day, when they were again dumped in the drink. Rats given additional doses of adrenaline were better at remember where the platform was; rats whose natural adrenaline was countered by a shot of propranolol, forgot all about the platform---and presumably drowned, though the report did not say.
Naturally, studies on humans came next. Incredibly, it was then discovered that in humans, the effects were the same with one additional benifit. Humans, with their human-sized brains, and longer memories, did not need to be given the dose immediatly after the event, but could just as effectively be treated as much as 30 years later, as long as they were thinking about the event at the time the dosage was administered!
Results of early tests have been extremely promising. Flashbacks and nightmares were promptly wiped out. No side effects what-so-ever have been reported. The pill is already FDA approved, already on the market, already being prescribed, and already relatively inexpensive.
So naturally, Republicans and religious leaders oppose it, apparently citing and endorsing the benifits of long term post tramatic stress syndrome.
Rejecting ALL advancements in modern medicine, pretty much on principle, as they have previously done with "Plan B" contraceptive, "the pill", abortion, Medical Marijuana (and Medical Heroin, and Medical Cocaine), AIDS research, anasthesia in general, surgery in general, and Aspirin. [though their opposition to the above mentioned medical advancements was not mentioned except for PROPRANOLOL, I felt complelled to point out their irrational hatred of science, just in case there are any sane people out there who haven't yet realized that religion, including and especially Christianity, is not just a harmless illusion, but in fact, actively evil.]
Never-the-less, PROPRANOLOL, already stocked by your pharmacist, is probably here to stay. Even if not approved for this new purpose, Doctors, under the weight of their hypocratic oath, will almost certainly being prescribing it to rape victims, especially upon request. Medically, it will take its proper place along with painkillers, moring after pills, and anti-virus vaccines.
Which begs the question:
If we don't treat rape victims, medically, the same as we did 100 years ago,
should we continute to treat rape perpetrators, legally, the same as we did 100 years ago.
Now that scientists (MALE scientists, btw) have significantly reduced the EFFECTS of rape,
shouldn't the PENALTIES for rape also be reduced accordingly?

Pass it on: How condescending... I'm gonna inform ya something, females are simply as territorial as guys, simply attempt to watch a lady transfer in on an extra womans guy, or attempt to inform an extra girl that she's now not doing whatever correct, and you can see. You are correct approximately the truth that we're most likely extra agressive, that is considering that we have now extra bodily force to fall again on. The cause that guys are much more likely to be sufferers of violent crime is considering that we're much more likely not to backtrack from confrontations. There are plenty of different elements too countless to say. Its now not fairly a black and white problem.

I am sorry but you will never get completely past it.
There will always be little triggers that set you off.
My best advice is to see a therapist and talk about it until your blue in the face. Getting it out and dealing with it is the best approach. You need to understand all the different complex emotions you have going on even the subconscious ones.
I am sorry that this happened to you, and good luck in your recovery.

I'm so sorry this awful thing happened to you honey - you need to talk it through with someone who'll understand....call the nearest Rape Crisis Centre (if UK - if US I don't know what they call them - but Women's Refuge will be able to direct you) You need to deal with this as it can mess up your mind for a long time....it messed me up good for years, but talk it through and you can start to put it away where you won't have to think about it.
