My (former) sister in law joined the Army several years ago. She said they had a beauty salon but she didn't trust them to relax her hair because she didn't know their experience and hair training. She got her hair cut very short because of lice and the fact that they didn't have time to do anything to their hair, like she didn't have time to oil her scalp or anything, so she decided to get it cut very short to make it easier during training.

I don't know if you're relaxed or natural, but maybe you should look into braids and take a spray bottle of oil and water. Water to hydrate (moisture) and oil to seal in that moisture so it doesn't get dry quickly. If you're natural then this is good for your hair. Relaxed is a different thing and I'm glad I'm not relaxed anymore because I don't have to deal with those issues.

Hmm, no oils huh? What can you bring? Work with what you can bring. You might want to check out a military message board like military.com.

No No and NO don't ask a recruiter... sheesh You ought to speak with the Department of the Navy straight. Recruiters, no less than in my day, had been the individuals who passed out the rose tinted glasses. If what they informed me had come real I'd nonetheless be within the Navy lo those 30 years given that I enlisted. You'll be informed some thing it takes to get your title at the line. I just want to mention if nobody else does, that you're allowed to have cornrows, but no zig zagging or anything unique, like it has to be straight. A lot of black women I went through boot camp with would put eachothers hair in cornrows because it stayed put and was easier to manage. But some got in a lot of trouble when they tried to get unique with it. Just wanted to say that if nobody else does.

I think it's the same thing as white women not taking care of their hair. While of course it's not the same, people typically don't take care of their hair when they're in services.

    Thanks and good luck (:

well before you go, do everything you need to to keep it healthy and not cute...for now. Then when its good to go, you could get braided up and greased or oiled down and your good to go. So when you come home your hair will be strong and healthy enough to do alot to it!!
