I'm Chinese and I spend most of my time idling around. I hate to study. Contrary to popular belief, not all Chinese are nerds.

China alone has a huge population.. about 1.3 billion people?

So I can't tell you how much time they spend everyday on average studying 'cause it's a lottt of people, you know...

And then there are people of Chinese descent outside of mainland China allllll over the world. So you can't really generalize them.. I don't even think there have been studies for that, either. lol

I will suggest you to apply through CUCAS, CUCAS is a professional online platform for international students to apply for Chinese universities, it has a strong relationship with over 300 universities in China. They do not ask for any fee, the application fee is collect by them but only on behalf of the university, CUCAS also hold social activities for international students so they will not get bored, they always try to think as a foreigner and help international students to solve their problems. Very nice.

Are you kidding? This is something that varies from person to person. There must be somebody in China who doesn't study at all, and some other body who barely leaves the book.

Upper Middle School students in China tend to study more than any other demographic group of students. They spend the equivalent of 10th - 12th grades preparing for the all-important college entrance exam that will determine their future. Their scores on this exam not only determines what school they will go to, but will also determine what their major is.

This age group *typically* studies an hour or so before school; goes to school from 8 - 5 (there are variations on this schedule . . . I'm simplifying it quite a bit) and then studies for a good five to six hours in the evenings. There are very few extra-curricular activities for these students as that score on that exam is too important. They often go to school on both Saturdays and Sundays (but not necessarily as rigorous a schedule) and take practice test after practice test after practice test. Additionally, they go to school during their winter and summer breaks in order to prepare for the exam.

Lower Middle School students (grades 7 - 9), while taking their studies seriously, don't spend as much time in the evenings. They might have only four hours homework instead of five or six. They, too, will go to school on Saturdays and Sundays, but won't necessarily have as much homework as the upper middle school students.

Primary School (grades 1 - 6) tend to average an hour per grade of homework each day, with the weekends having twice as much. Sixth grade is spend preparing for the entrance test to get into middle (high) school . . . yes, they have to take tests to get into high school here. Fifth and sixth grade students are more studious as they are preparing for middle (high) school which prepares them for college.

Primary school students often have English or math classes on Saturdays and Sundays as these two subjects are considered to be the key to success in China.

And what happens when they get to college? Typically, students are so exhausted that they don't study anymore. University studies are nowhere near as difficult as high school studies. Getting into college is the mark of success . . . not getting out of college. It is very uncommon for anyone to fail college as getting there is all that is needed. Students are allowed to retake classes or tests in order for them to pass so that universities can claim high statistics for graduation numbers.

It's a different education system than in the west, with lots of emphasis on memorization. It's difficult to understand how the system completely works. I will say, though, that I feel the foundations of education (study and hard work) are learned early on which can pay off later in life.
