I sprayed RAID all over my microwave. Is it safe to use?

A few weeks ago my hubby and I had an infestation of ants all over our countertops, in our cabinets, and unfortunately in our microwave as well. We live right next to the woods and had seen all of them outside but figured they wouldn't be able to get in since we live in a top floor apt.--we were wrong. Anyway, when I saw the large number of ants crawling around in my microwave, (without thinking) I just sprayed them all to hell with RAID. Inside, outside, in the vents, everywhere. I want to now get rid of the $300.00 microwave but my father in law keeps trying to persuade me to keep it. Keep in mind that I am also pregnant and don't want to take the chance that turning the microwave will cause fumes. He claims that it won't happen because the raid evaporates and is no longer in the microwave. He even offered to buy new vents for the microwave so we didn't have to replace it. (He's one of those guys that needs to find any way possible to save a dime). I don't even want to keep it in the apt. for fear that the next people who live there will use it without knowing what was sprayed in it! I feel like the risks outweigh the benefits. It's getting really frusterating going back and forth with my father-in-law trying to explain that I am uncomfortable using the microwave, so I need to know: Am I over-reacting? Is the microwave safe to use?

Update:

Thanks but I'm not interested in what I could have done. Whats done is already done. I wasn't going to put black pepper in the bottom of a microwave that about 200 ants were crawling around on everywhere. I saw them, freaked out, and reacted without thinking. I just wanted them dead. Period. My question is "Is the microwave safe to use now?" That's all I want to know.

Update 2:

I wasn't going to "cook" the ants either and then cook my food in it. Seriously.

Saving $300 isn't worth your health, or the health of you baby.

You could always call them, I guess:

I would have to say that was a terrible idea ! The chemicals from the raid will certainly get into your food. I wouldn't take a chance. Go buy a new one and chalk it up to experience!

PS Be sure you destroy the old one so that no one else uses it. You could be liable for someone else's health problems.

Source(s): Call your local poison control for advice, but I suspect they'll tell you what everyone else here has told you.

It was probably a really dumb move to spray it in the vents in the microwave. You can wash the surfaces off, but you've got it elsewhere in it. It might be possible for a repair person to take it apart and clean it.

I think your best bet is to call S.C. Johnson, who makes Raid.

Here's where to get their phone info, or you can send an email, too.

you need to get advice from a professional maybe 2. you could have just turned on the micro with the ants in it. a good way to get rid of ants is to put down ground black pepper. it will no get rid of them everywhere but wil where the pepper is and for quite a ways out.

First: please talk with your doctor as RAID and pregnancy do not mix. You may want to ask how long the RAID residues linger in your home/microwave etc.

(ants are safer for you right now than chemicals.)
