Did you notice this in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ?

Harry descended from Ignotus Peverrel. Hence his father and then he had the cloak of invisibility.

Voldemort was a descendent of Cadmus Peverrel coz his grandfather Marvolo Gaunt had the stone.

Since Voldemort was also a descendent of Salazaar Slytherin, this means that Slytherin was a descendent of Cadmus Peverrel.

Also, Since Cadmus and Ignotus were brothers, this makes Harry and Voldy kind of distant cousins!!!!!!!!!

What say u to that ?

Update:

to ''My Twilight'' - Ha Ha. I am 18 and not at all disturbed. i just like my childhood fantasy tales. *.*

to courtney - Voldy did not know of this. He did not even know or believe in stories of the Deathly Hallows.

to Shawn W - If Voldy descended from Slytherin and also from Cadmus Peverrel, it means all three were from same blood line or family.

to AlexJDL - Yeah Cadmus killed himself but who knows, he might have had a son or daughter. The tale does not really delve into that bit. Either ways, the cloak and stone were passed onto family members, so they are still related.

Update 2:

I wonder if J.K.Rowling meant this or if she didn't, does she realise this ?

Update 3:

I noticed this when i first read the book and was surprised that there were no more references to it.

Update 4:

I've received really good responses. Thanks everyone. :-)

    Well that it is

And she said that all wizards are distantly related

To my twilight: the question is better than some of the crazy Twitard question... obviously you wouldn't have said this if the question was "how hot is Edward Cullen' or "do you like boys who sparkle?'

This is a good observation, if it was accurate. In the story, Marvolo Gaunt, did get the stone from his father, but it never states that Marvolo's father first got the stone. How could he? The stone was hundreds of years old, and marvolo's father "found it" way before that time. While, the stone could have been passed down by ancestory, there is no true evidence to either matter.

Another thing, if this is true, it did not matter to either Harry or Voldemort, that they were distant cousins. Voldemort killed. If he was related to Harry, he was related to James and Lilly. He killed them without a thought. Harry would not hesitate to kill Voldemort because he killed his parents. Another proving point, Voldemort killed one of his closest relatives, he would kill a distant one.

I like this question and was glad to answer! :D

I realised this once Harry found out Voldy was descended from the Peverells. I'd be surprised if JK hadn't meant this to be part of the book. Cadmus was the one with the Resurrection Stone wasn't he?

This is interesting! *here's a star*

    Yes, of course!

But the question that runs in my mind is -

What would have happened if someone didn't have a son or daughter there? How was it passed on? Does it seem unlikely that Salazar Slytherin was married or whatever?

As Sirius said, all pure-blood families are somehow related to each other....so even Sirius would somehow be related to Harry and Voldemort..... somehow...

  • yes lol i spent ages thinking about it

but its not necessarily true....voldemort is descended of cadmus....but slytherin doesnt have to be descended of cadmus too....slytherin could have married into cadmus' family....so theyre only related by marriage really

did you also find that the second book references were almost tru....harry is related to slytherin by very distant marriage.

well they were distinctly related.still they are cousins of course..

imagine peverells were present even before hogwarts was started

as u say Salazar Slytherin was a descendent of Cadmus Peverrel

I see what you mean and I think you have a good point.

She MUST have had some kind of inkling, because she must have thought it when she said, "Harry is related to Ignotus" and "Voldemort is related to Cadmus".

    Good point,

    Interesting :-D

No question.... they are related... distantly.. but even though Harry married a pure-blood, he never accepted pure-blood discrimination.

As Albus Dumbledore suggested, it was the choices and not the blood. Plus, Harry asked Voldemort to repent. He gave him every chance in the world to save his soul and Voldemort refused. Harry disarmed, rather than kill... and the rest was magic.

I have some evil cousins. One is in jail, and I know a relative who ... is selfish and murder is an end to a game.

in the book harry potter and the order of phoenix, sirius black says that all the pure blood families are related in some or the other way so there is no surprise if harry and voldemort are related

They both had a pure-blood parent, though, meaning the chances of them not being related is very slim. All the pure-blood families are related in some way, even if it's really distant.

i didn't realize that when i read the book but that's really weird. i mean in HBP the memories show how Voldy was trying to find out about his family so wouldn't he have found out about that. but as you said he didn't know about the Deathly hallows so he couldn't have found out. but if this was true wouldn't Dumbledore have made the connection and told Harry, but maybe he did make the connection and didn't want to tell Harry about it.
