After poppies bloom do I cut down the stems and seeds?

My poppies have finished blooming. Do I cut off the stem and seed heads? If not now, when do I do it?

If you want the poppies to spread, leave the seed heads on. When they are completely dry, you can open them and plant the seeds where you want, or you can let nature take its course and the heads will eventually open and the seeds will disperse naturally. If you don't want more poppies, cut the heads and stems off anytime after blooming.

I assume it is the large flowered oriental poppy you have. I cut mine back to about 6" from the ground using hedge clippers and then i get a second flush of flowers in september. It keeps the garden tidy and the poppies only die back naturally anyway but in july. I cut leaves and all.

in case you want them to offer greater Poppies next one year, go away the plant by myself or you are able to take the dried seeds and scatter them in yet another area which you particularly want them to strengthen next one year. yet another element which you should to think of roughly is that in case you have a neighbor or pal who might want to have a number of the seeds. Sharing is usually a good element. grant a number of them to a distinctive avid gardener which you're familiar with, and in line with probability they're going to commerce you for something you do not have.
