How do I grow the palm "phoenix canariensis" from seeds?
I just pulled a bunch of little green seeds (look like small olives) from the above palm. How do I plant them to grow new trees? I know it will take "forever" as they are super slow-growing. I live in a place where these trees grow well. They are beautiful!

Clean and then soak the seeds for a couple of days in some warm water, changing frequently, to prevent bugs building up that could rot the seeds. Rinse with a very dilute bleach solution, to kill off any bacteria/fungi.
I then place mine into sealed plastic bags, alongside some vermiculite or perlite, with a small amoun of water, such as a couple of tea spoons.
Place the bag into a warm place, and watch for roots emerging from the seeds. Canariensis tends to be an easy germinator, as well as fairly fast, although some may take months longer than others, so don't throw out those that don't start.
You can also grow these in pots of soil, but I find my germination rate much higher, starting them from soaking and then keeping them warm and humid in a sealed bag, when they're sterilised. If you get any seed decay, remove it quickly.
Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob
