what is a technician fith grade in the army?

I am trying to hunt down all my Grandpa's Army stuff and this is what his rank was. He has passed so I can not as him. All I know is that he entered Princeton at 17 after a few Years there he went to Italy and Germany. This was during WW ll. He Became a MP in Germeny.

The place that held all his records burnt so looking all this up is not easy.

It is an obsolete rank. Technicians in WWII were skilled craftsmen. They had the same pay rates as enlisted soldiers but without their authority. They are analogous to army specialists now. It only has the specialist grade for E-4 plus a small amount of corporals who have more authority. A T-5 is the equivalent of a Sergeant.
