Joe Brown gets MBE...at last.?

Well done, Joe. Bit late, but never mind. His inimitable style

of music brought pleasure to many of us. I hope the Bruvvers

feel a part of the award.

I still play his music from time to time when I am feeling

nostalgic. Do you?

Update:

Mr Tel. Pity you don't allow emails. I knew about the late Vicki Brown, his wife, who sang on the No 1 by JJ Barrie, but didn't know about Sam. Tks for answer.

Thanks for bringing back the memory Bunts, I've always loved Joe Brown because I was 20 in 1962 when he recorded "A picture of you" and it was at the time of my life when dance halls, girls and youthful enjoyment was the most important thing in my life.

Here's Joe with a 1964 rendition of two of my favourite songs of his, "I'm Henry the eighth I am" and "What a crazy world we're living in", do you remember when Jimmy Saville and David Jacobs were this young?

The clip also shows my second favourite (Elvis was always first) American singer presenting him with an NME award.

Joe was also a great guitarists when most 'pop artists' of the time got away with learning just a few chords.

He also has a wonderful sense of humour, I remember him appearing at our local 'hop' about this time (a converted cinema) in my home town of Llanelli in South Wales, while he was singing this song a fight broke out right in front of the stage between two youths, he just walked calmly to the front of the stage immediately above the two scrappers and broke into "We'll keep a welcome in the hillside", the fighting soon stopped amongst the laughter and he immediately slipped back into his routine.

    see above

All the DJs back then were middle aged until the Pirate Ships came along.

I always thought Susan Maughan was very desirable even when I was 12 phwoarr.

Joe used to play a Gibson 335 TD and was a session guitarist and good of course - saw him interviewed about the old days last year. Larry Parnes earned the moniker Parnes shillings and pence because he was so tight - one of several Jewish managers along with Epstein and Don Arden (sharon's dad).

He always had that toilet brush haircut lol Made a long career out of almost nothing like Tommy Steele from the same area I think.

He and his wife and band played for our squadron when we were in the middle of the desert along time ago.
