  • Who is telling lies about rendition?

The Americans, without doubt, flew rendition suspects through United Kingdom airspace and airports. They are quite open about

agreeing they tortured suspects. The Uk still has civil rights and abhors this. Ministers say they knew nothing about these happenings.

So - were the Americans keeping stuff from their greatest ally, or the Minsiters lying?

  • What is the word I am looking for?

It's when the CIA kidnap someone from a foreign country outside of their jusrisdictiction and then torture them in other lands which have a poor record on civil rights.

There is a single word to describe this.....it just escapes me at the minute.

  • Where do serious 'askers' go now?

I started on here, trying to help people, and hoping to find

an answer to a serious question.

Since then, the kids have taken over.

Does anyone know of a decent site, where people

can ask serious questions and get serious answers without

polls - What is your favourite colour/meal/film. "This lad looked

twice at me. Do you think he loves me?"

I have put up with it for a long time, but this site is now a

    glorified chat show.

I've got to level 6, though I care not about points, through

helping people. Time to pack up and let the Bebo rejects

    have the site.

So - where now? Any ideas?

  • why are the Ashes being held in Wales?

England play Australia for the Ashes. England are at home. No, they are not. Although we have Lords and The Oval, they are playing in another country.

If it had not been for pressure, England's players would have stood to attention for Land of My Fathers, which is nobody's national anthem. Wales - like England, Scotland & Ireland don't have a National Anthem other than God Save the Queen, although the other countries recognize songs as anthems.

You don't suppose the fact that the Welsh Assembly made a £3m

grant to the England & Wales Cricket Board had the slightest influence in where the match would be played, and what songs would be sung? Perhaps I am being a little cynical.

(I am English. I love the Welsh. I hate cricket. I love fair play)

  • Can we trust America with our secrets?

America wants the UK to deport a person with a serious mental problem for hacking into 72 (or was it 97?) of it's top secret

computer systems, looking for proof of Little Green Men.

If he can do it, what does it say about their security? Should

we 'share secrets' with them, if this can happen?

(And no - I am not anti-American. Or I wasn't until this happened)

    8 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade ago
  • Does America not understand Fair Play?

Extradition Act 2003 - we extradite people you want from the UK; you send us the people we want. Except it has never worked that way.

Someone has hacked into your Pentagon computers, and American is going round in circles to get him extradited, where he faces a possible 60 years imprisonment - because he showed your computer system was rubbish.

I would prefer to see you concentrating on your wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that Bush started, before you start worrying about a computer hacker.

This sounds anti-American which I am not. I just have a sense of

    justice and fair play.

  • UK H.M. the Q will ask for a pay rise.....?

It works out at 6p per YEAR for every man, woman & child, or less than 50p for a family with 5 children.

Personally, I would sooner pay her than fat cat chairmen, ditto bankers, and grabbing MP's.

She hasn't even asked for it yet, but already the cynics are sniping.

Do YOU begrudge her the rise?

  • The recession will bring back reality to English football?

The recession means everyone is drawing in their horns. This includes top companies. Sponsorship will go. English football will not be awash with money, and our footballers will be paid a realistic wage,

not 50 times the amount we pay our Prime Minister. The working man can go back to paying £10 to watch football.

Is this the way things are going?

  • I am sick of hearing that Gordon Brown wasn't elected.?

No, he wasn't elected as Prime Minister. The majority party decide their own leader. Labour is the majority party. They decide.

Only if you voted for a Prime Minister - Blair, Thatcher, or anyone else, should you answer.

Result - no answers....because in the UK we have never voted for a PM. Brown is no different to Thatcher in that respect.

  • How about a grandparents day?

Card-printers are quick off the mark. Happy Birthday son, wife, daughter, uncle, aunt, ad nauseum. I notice now in the UK that

cards to 'my best teacher' are creeping in.

How about a day to celebrate Grandparents?

High Gramps. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be here. Love you.

Or cards for your Ex. 'We may have split, but hey, we

    had some good times. Thanks.'

For work colleagues - 'You are a pain in the bum some times. But I wouldn't change you for anyone else'

What cards (keep it within the rules!) would you like to see?

  • Positive discrimination will kill the UK?

The Sun, Thurs June 18th...."Thousands of top state jobs must go to women, black, Asian, or disabled people, Harriet Harmen said last night.....Half of new appointments must go to women by 2011, with 14 per cent to disabled people and 11 percent to ethnic minorities."

Where will this lead? Nothing about qualities, qualifications, ability, experience - let's just fill the quotas.

(I am disabled; far from a racist, and not a misogynist).

Harriet Harman's policy just doesn't make sense to me. A black

disabled female will be shortlisted for a job above all others, irrespective of ability.

Tell me if my thinking is wrong.....

  • Why was his question deleted?

The question was asking if the section P&S was not itself a violation of the Community Rules. Fair Question, open to opinion.

It was only on site for a matter of minutes. It was deleted

whilst I was answering it. It was not a criticism of P&S, where

like-minded people meet - it asked the simple question does it

    breach it's own rules?

The fact that anyone, on a whim, can get it deleted proves

    something.

I hope the asker poses the question again; and again; and again

until he gets some reasoned answers.

And yes, technically, it breaches it's own rules. But

    live and let live.

  • Where did we go wrong?

Quote 'Joan Charlton, aged 82, was found dead in her home, with every bone in her face broken. A man of 20 is being questioned by police'

Is that what she could expect when she reached that grand old age? Did we bring the kids up wrong? Is it down to drugs? Greed?

Laugh this one off, all you P&S freaks.

  • Not anti-religious jokes...?

The Lord said unto Moses 'Starboard 10'. Moses, not being

a seafaring man, put Port 10 on, and landed in the bullrushes.

The Lord said unto Moses 'Come forth'. He came fifth, so

didn't qualify for the next round.

(Yes, it's OK to joke about religion - as long as the jokes don't

mock anyone's beliefs, which these are not meant to do)

  • Joe Brown gets MBE...at last.?

Well done, Joe. Bit late, but never mind. His inimitable style

of music brought pleasure to many of us. I hope the Bruvvers

feel a part of the award.

I still play his music from time to time when I am feeling

    nostalgic. Do you?

  • Ronaldo or Prime Minister?...?

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom would have to work for

at least 42 years to earn Ronaldo's transfer fee. For kicking a

Has the world gone mad, or am I seeing things through

    prejudiced eyes?

  • Spotnicks - Swedish Instrumental group?

I collect UK 60's music and remember the Spotnicks well for Orange Blossom Special in 1962 and Hava Nagila the following year.

I am looking for 'Just Listen To My Heart', which reached No 36

in the UK in April 1963. Their fan site is not too English-friendly, and I note

that they released about 700 titles in many countries - though they

changed the titles in some countries.

Any fan know if 'Just Listen To My Heart', which I cannot find,

was released under any other name?

  • Why is every one calling for Gordon Brown's blood?

MP's of every colour have been caught abusing the expenses gravy train. Brown is not one of them (Cameron looks shaky). This has been going on since Brown was in short trousers.

I am Apolitical. I don't support one party or another.

The whole picture stinks. But let's not rip one man up for the faults of 630+ others......

Tomorrow's election results should be interesting.......

  • MMR jabs - what are you doing?

As a child brought up in the '60's, we had no choice. Kids were vaccinated at school without choice. Having watched children suffer from Mumps, Measles, Chicken Pox and Scarlet Fever, I don't want

your unvacinated children mixing with my vacinated grandchildren.

Someone has come up with the simple idea. Unvacinated children will not be allowed to go to school.

Do you think in the 50's/60's we had much choice? Were these horrific diseases nearly wiped out? Is the jab any worse than any other

    jab?

We can always follow the American example and sue the Government for millions if things go wrong.
