Does America not understand Fair Play?

Extradition Act 2003 - we extradite people you want from the UK; you send us the people we want. Except it has never worked that way.

Someone has hacked into your Pentagon computers, and American is going round in circles to get him extradited, where he faces a possible 60 years imprisonment - because he showed your computer system was rubbish.

I would prefer to see you concentrating on your wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that Bush started, before you start worrying about a computer hacker.

This sounds anti-American which I am not. I just have a sense of

justice and fair play.

Update:

Dave S - men climb mountains purely because they are there. You will always have hackers whilst the challenge is there. You don't address the point of US sending bodies back to the UK.

Update 2:

Janice Oh for God's sake grow up! We are not talking terrorists, we are talking about a mental retard who hacked into your most secret computer systems to find evidence of 'little green men' What really hurts you Americans is the fact the he could do it - and you want him to pay, although experts say this will kill him.

I thought after Guantonomo bay and the blot on the US history that this brought, you would have learned something. Obviously not......

Excuse me if I laugh every time the USA mentions human rights......

I think most of them do, this is down to over reaction, rather than anything else.

To my knowledge, no hacker has ever been extradited. As he committed the crime here, then he should be tried here.

"Your quite happy for British citizens to hack into US networks willy nilly then?"

No. But given that he committed the offence in the UK, he should be tried in the UK. Considering that we are talking about someone who is mentally fragile, then it would also be inhumane to extradite him.

Infact, if I were you, I would be scared to death about how "willy nilly" Mckinnon did it.

If he managed to do it, then anyone from Kim Jong Il, to FSB agents, to Osama Bin Laden, have been playing "Free Cell" and "Minesweeper" on the Pentagon's computers for the past seven years. They probably have their names up on the high scores.

Fortunately, McKinnon is nothing like any of the above, he is just a UFO crank with Asperger's Syndrome.

But if Americans are looking for reasons why the US is hated by so many, then the intention to extradite and lock up a man with Autism, in a maximum security prison, for up to 60 years, or until he goes mad and tops himself (whichever comes first), might be another possibility to add to the list.

I don't hate America, but I sometimes wonder if Norma Bates resides in the attic at the Whitehouse.

The sooner we extradite him the better. He knew what he was doing at the time and he knew the consequences. This Asperger's thing has strangely only come to light since the original agreement to extradite him and is only been diagnosed by a Dr. for his defence.

Fair play doesn't come into it, the old saying don't want to do the time, then don't do the crime. When he is eventually extradited and I hope he is, I hope the American justice system does not agree to let him serve out his sentence here, as this do good country will release him as soon as they can.

It's a pity that we don't have a Justice system like the Americans, where life means life and criminals are not let loose on the community, which they have no repect for, after 1/2 of their sentence.

We should simply refuse to extradite him.

He's not a security threat, he's just some guy with Asperger's who was looking for evidence of UFOs. Jailing him for 60 years would be obscene. So unless the US government is willing to reach a plea bargain for a reasonable sentence while he's still in the UK we shouldn't extradite him.

You have a sense of justice and fair play? Really? No one, including Bush forced the UK to send troops to Iraq. Afghanistan is a UN operation and they are the ones to complain to about your troops being there.

Hacking the Pentagon computers puts not only our troops at risk it also puts all of our allies troops at risk. If this man is allied with a Muslim extremest group it could have dire consequences for both of our countries.

Did you even think about that? I doubt it.

Oh, by the way, the man will get his Miranda rights, he will be represented by an attorney at the publics expense if he cannot afford one, he will have a jury made up of at least 12 individuals and will have the right to confront his accusers. If he is convicted he will have the right to appeal with the expense again being born by the American public. That is called fair play.

yes it's an American 'show of strength' against a UK person. My son has asperger's syndrome and is always using computers.

I'm not convinced this McKinnion bloke really has Aspergers though!

Your quite happy for British citizens to hack into US networks willy nilly then?

where do you draw the line? the odd murder or rape OK as well?

It also makes me laugh the moronic excuse that the US computer system was poor therefore they deserved to be hacked.

If I leave my front door open, does that mean you can steal what you like and then when youre caught red handed by the police, just shrug your shoulders and go 'You cant prosecute me, because he left his door open, so therefore I can steal what I like.'

I might also remind you that this guy most likely used brute force hacking programs to get in. It wasnt like they left the door wide open with a sign out the front saying 'Come and hack me!'

Source(s): Edit - Well as long as humans are around, you'll always have murderers, but we dont let them go running around doing what they want do they? If youre a hacker then fine, but dont play the game unless you can take the punishment. As for bodies, Ive got no idea what youre on about.
