Where did we go wrong?
Quote 'Joan Charlton, aged 82, was found dead in her home, with every bone in her face broken. A man of 20 is being questioned by police'
Is that what she could expect when she reached that grand old age? Did we bring the kids up wrong? Is it down to drugs? Greed?
Laugh this one off, all you P&S freaks.

That poor-poor lady - had the good fortune to reach the age of 82yrs - and was not allowed to 'eventually' die in peace.....Jeeeeze !!!
The parents have to take some of the blame for this happening - this 'bast**d would have been out of contol for years now. I don't care if he was 'high' on drugs or whatever - 'if found guilty 'hang him' - theres no other sentence that will fit this 'dreadfull crime' and let it be a warning to all those others (and there are lots of them out there) that this will happen to you if you involve yourselves with this type of crime.
Ofcourse it won't happen - all those do-gooders and the PC crowd won't allow it - and its thanks to that lot we are in the mess with sentenceing we are in now adays. It seems all this type of thing is 'never going to stop'. All our lives are so cheap in todays world - and people like this 'bast**d will end it without a 2nd thought.
And all the powers that be will 'huff and puff' and still nothing will be done to try and 'end' these crimes. The judges will give a light sentence and after a few years he will be out of prison to do it all again when the mood takes him...........I say again 'hang this BAST**D.

I think there are many reasons, but the major factor is Drugs.
No matter how well you bring your kids up if they get into a bad crowd, start using drugs and become addicted, then this level of violence is not unusual.
We are now seeing 2nd and 3rd generation drug users, who's parents and grandparents are addicts, who's only reason for existence is the next fix, and how to pay for it. A little old lady like this is nothing more than an opportunity.
Until we realise how prevalent drugs are, and that the present legislation is doing nothing to control the problem then everyone of us is a potential victim of violence on this scale.
My own gut instinct is punitive punishment, but the worse thing we can do is carry on with the present situation which patently not working, is making millionaires out of criminals, and is dragging more people into addiction.

We will never know that answer why people are evil we just have to make sure we catch them and put them away for a very long time or give them the death penalty and yes families are all screwed up and lots of people should have never had any children some come from good families and just turn out wrong sad story and there are so many every day!

I suspect that too many crimes are drug or drink related but you have to question the mentality of someone who could be so violent to such an old lady. Such a violent criminal should not be allowed to live but our society does not support capital punishment. I truly believe these awful people should serve time in special prisons where life is very harsh and I really believe that flogging should be a regular punishment for them to remember the crimes they have committed. That man of 20 should not be released until he is 70.

We didn't go wrong at all. There are naturally some members of society with nothing but evil in their doing. The debate between nature and nurture comes up in this topic. You'd have to examine motive for the man for doing this. With this vague of information, it makes it seem like the man is just basically a incoherently evil man with only malice as his intent. You'd have to understand where the man came from, how he was raised, and whether he displayed such behavior in the first place. As for the question of where we went wrong... You have to understand we can't really stop most of this violence. It is sad, but true, evil will go on.

Yeah, most parents' don't know how/don't care enough to bring the kids up. Not many parents are willing to spend time and money to study the art of raising kids, they just do whatever that they think is best for them which unfortunately is wrong/outdated most of the time. Drugs and greed are the result of bad parenting.

We removed corporal punishment which meant that the only fear then generated was the fear of victims and not the assailants. We need to bring back the cane in schools and to introduce such a hard work culture within prisons that no one would want to go back twice. Unfortunately the namby pamby hand wringers won't let this happen and so there's little or no deterrent to anti social behaviour.

It's all down to there being no discipline in families any more which is the fault of parents who should also be in the dock when their scum kids are convicted of a crime.
It's also the fault of successive governments who have failed to address the issues of crime and despite promising to be tough on crime and it's causes, have failed miserably to do so.

We voted for labour too many times and still believed their trendy friends from polytechnic when they told us that freedom of expression is good. In whatever form. And that punishment for criminals is bad, inhumane and doesn't work. Well it sure does in my book and there isn't enough of it these days. No deterrants=more crime. Not rocket science is it.
