Why are your musical influences your influences?
What brought this about is Pandora radio and its one song one station principal. IT is amazingly accurate to what my 30 years of music recognizes as good tunes.(both in the tunes I play and listen to) MY question to you is what memes or more simply what determines what we like musically?

I would imagine that musical influence involves how it relates to an individual, the ideas in the lyrics, tonality and modes that reflect on an individual's own personality and which the individual wishes to replicate in their own music.

today and in the recent past, i think it had more to do with the "culture" of it all. people wanted and still do want to fit in to a certain genre, they don't necessarily listen to it purely for the music. teens are most susceptible to this, and it is during this period that people have their most cherished tunes ingrained into their very being.
