New quad for 10 year old?

Quad suggestions for 10 year old?

My son has been riding a Polaris Predator 90 for the past four years. (Before that a Husky 50 for 2 years). So he is pretty experienced.

Nonetheless, he is still relatively cautious and I don't expect him to be racing the supercross anytime soon.

I am looking for a quad that will last him until he can afford his own. I was thinking of a Raptor 250.

Like I said he is an intermediate rider. He's a big kid (5' tall/100lbs.) He has all of the gear - so lets not get greenpeace lecturing me on giving my kid a 50 cc bike because of some sticker on the back fender. Also please don't give me a hard time due to this being a quad question in a mx category.

The Raptor 250 is perfect. For people that say that that is a big jump, what do they suggest? There is no class in between 90s and the

200-300cc range. I got a Yamaha Blaster when I was 8 and I was also big for my age. The 250 is the new Blaster and kicks some serious butt against everything else in the class. The only problem, is that it is a small bike. If you want it to last him awhile, look at the Raptor 350 and see what you think of it. Since he has been riding and has the experience, I would probably suggest it just because of the fact that it's a bigger quad that will last him longer and will let him have a lot more fun when he's older and wants more power. Don't consider a 450. The number may not seem huge like a Raptor 700, but the 450 has just as much power as a 700 and has the ability to beat it in a drag race. The 450 just has too much power and needs a very experienced rider. So in my opinion, I'd go with the 350 just because it will be better in the long run. The 250 and 350 are both great quads and are both reasonably priced. It's your call. Either way, I'm sure your son will be happy. Good Luck

If anything go for something smaller than a 250, they have a lot of power and speed, the Raptor may be a little big for him, BUT, what I would do is go to a motorsports dealer and see if he can test drive one. He may not be ready to advance from a 90 to a 250. I was in this same exact situation a few months ago. I was riding a 2005 honda trx 90cc sportrax, that was my first bike but I kept the thing until I was 14. So I grew a lot so I fit on a 250 with that much power, please trust me because when I rode that 250 EX (sport model) there's a hell of a lot more power than a 90. So consider your choice, because he just might not be ready for a 250

Firstly I don't know a lot about quads but understand what you are getting at with having a child who is bigger than the average for his age ( i always had the opposite problem with one smaller for his age). I would just like to state that you should get him a machine that he can manage and fit on, keeping in mind that while he may be large for his size he still won't have the strength that an older person has. A friend of mine had the same thing with a son who was way too tall for the age section he was meant to race in and could fit on the larger bike but just was not strong enough to do well.

Quads are also not something that you want landing on top of your 10 year old and the bigger the quad with more power the more chance of an accident. So put him on one that he will fit but don't go larger than necessary thinking he is going to grow like crazy as he is still only 10. Then be prepared to upgrade as he does grow. Doing it that way will be safer and it will be some time till he can afford his own.

The raptor 250 is a great quad and will work great, however because he is still growing he might end up outgrowing a 250. You may want to consider the 450. Thats if he has enough riding expeirance. Just remember the 250 would be the ideal quad for him now but in a year or so you would have wished you got the 450 becuase he is just going to keep growning and eventually be to big for the 250. Hope i helped.

He's got no business being on anything bigger. If you and he think that Predator 90 is too little, you both are crazy. It is big enough for him to get hurt on. He will certainly hurt himself on anything bigger. Stick with that model for a couple more years. And anybody who even thinks of putting a ten year old kid on a 250 needs his head cracked.

a jump from 90 - 250 is HUGE for any 10 year old! that said, if you think he will outgrow a 250 anytime soon, you are gravely mistaken. a 250 should keep him busy 'til he gets a job.
