Kandahar crisis: Do you think a military operation was possible in a talibanised afghanistan back in the days?

There are a lot of armchair strategists and generals on Y/A like Rahul who discuss hypothetical scenarios of doing this in Amritsar and that in Afghanistan but fact remains that NSG could not be moved to Amritsar within 45 minutes and Punjab Police is hardly equipped to deal with a situation as complex as a plane Hijacking. To attempt something in Afghanistan would be to declare all out war on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

All one can do is laugh at the stupidity of these Armchair Yahoo generals and their half baked theories based on moronic bollywood movies.

A rescue operation is not something that can be carried out in a gung ho manner. But they will continue saying it since it benefits their Congress party's propaganda.

Don't you know, Congress can do anything, especially Rahul Gandhi! I'm waiting for him to find 15 minutes to finish terrorism.

Edit: MS stating facts does not mean one doubts the capabilities of the NSG. Realistic people doubt and question everything and that is what brings improvement s to a system. Now exactly because of the delay in arrival of the NSG on 26/11 in Mumbai we are talking about setting up various NSG facilities around the country. NSG is like SWAT and should be a member of the police of metropolitan cities like in most developed countries so they can respond quickly to an attack. Having them in Haryana and flying them down to the incident defeats the very purpose of having an Anti terrorist unit.

Everything is wrong in India. NSG come from the military while RAW comes from the police which is the other way around in most developed countries.

The SWAT serves arrest warrants as regular police during downtime where armed assaults are expected. That is called efficient management of human resources.

MS you are still harping on having 45 minutes. Point is from the time NSG are informed to the time they get ready and fly to the incident, the damage is already done. This wastes several hours and we are talking about a window of 45 minutes. The NSG need to rehearse the plan of attack aswell. A rescue operation where hostages are involved has to be a surgical strike otherwise it defeats the purpose of saving hostages.

BTW this problem has not been resolved yet. It will take a few years before the system in all cities gets streamlined and works like clockwork. Point is why is Kandhar a political criticising point for Congress when you say yourself no govt. could have done better than what BJP did.

Under the circumstances i see it as a success where nearly 200 people were saved. Congress had no other suggestions at the time but it never fails to twist facts to it's advantage.

Edit: Do get an education MS. For a plane hijack NSG IS the only crisis management team. It's not fire or a flood crisis where anyone can help. NSG recieves hundreds of hours of training to take down terrorists in two shots to the head.

The terrorists in Taj had two shots to the head one in each eye.

They have to consistently maintain firing accuracy during obstacles at above 97% to avoid innocents getting killed. They cannot be an active member of the team if they fall from those levels. NSG has a dropout rate of over 80 %. Very few people succeed in meeting the tough requirements. What you are doing is equating the work of NSG to Punjab police and BSF which is nothing short of pure foolishness. You know nothing about specialisation.

WHY DID WE NOT CONDUCT A NUCLEAR TEST IN KANDAHAR?

The biggest fiasco was done at amritsar airport, But you are true India could never had send commondos there.

1971 January 30 : An Indian Airlines plane on its way from Srinagar to Jammu was hijacked by Hashim Quereshi and Ashraf Quereshi of the JKLF, who took it to Lahore. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, then Foreign Minister of Pakistan rushed to Lahore and met the hijackers and helped them get maximum international publicity. On February 1, he persuaded them to release the crew and passengers who were then sent by road to Amritsar. The Government of India sought permission of Pakistan to send a replacement crew to fly the aircraft back to India. Pakistan authorities denied the permission. Instead it is alleged they supplied petrol to the hijackers with which they burnt the aircraft on February 2. From Lahore Airport the hijackers were taken into a procession as heroes.

1981 September 29 : An Indian airlines plane on flight from Srinagar to Delhi is hijacked and taken to Lahore. Pakistan took commando action and got all passengers released.

1982 August 22: A lone militant, armed with a pistol and a hand grenade, hijacked a Boeing 737 on a scheduled flight from Bombay to New Delhi carrying 69 persons. Indian security forces killed the hijacker and rescued all passengers.

1982 August: An Indian Airlines flight from Jodhpur to Delhi was hijacked. The hijacked plane landed at Amritsar.

1984 July 6 : An Indian Airlines jet carrying 255 passengers and a crew of nine on flight from Srinagar to New Delhi was hijacked and forced to land in Lahore ,Pakistan.The hijackers were reported to be armed with pistols, daggers and explosives. The hijackers' surrender to Pakistan authorities ended a 17- hour ordeal for the plane's passengers and crew, who remained aboard the A-300 Airbus in suffocating heat, with little food and water.

1984 August 24: Seven young hijackers demanded an Indian Airlines jetliner, on a domestic flight from Chandigarh to Srinagar with 100 passengers on board ,be flown to the United States. The plane was taken to Lahore and then to Karachi and finally to Dubai where the defense minister of UAE negotiated the release of the passengers. It was related to the secessionist struggle in the Indian state of Punjab.The hijacker was subsequently repatriated by UAE authorities to India, who handed over the pistol recovered from the hijacker. Investigations revealed that the pistol was manufactured in Germany and was part of 75 pistols consigned from Germany to CAO, PO Box 1040, Islamabad.The Pakistani Foreign Ministry denied the accusation.

1993 April 24: Indian Airlines aircraft bound for Srinagar via Jammu from Delhi is hijacked . The hijacker wanted to take the plane to Lahore but Pakistan authorities refused permission. The plane landed at Amritsar where the hijacker was killed and passengers freed.

Don't put your mouth in every country and create problem for us. Today, everyone is getting allergic to Indians. Overpopulation is a silent big threat.
