My friend has '99 Chevy Cavalier and her trunk won't stay shut. It just won't click shut. The latch is not?

"frozen" shut as I had suspected. It's open and won't close when you put the trunk down. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Update:

As 'bringing it back' stated, I did that already, I was wondering if something is broke off in there or something.

Stick your finger in the latch and pull up. more than likely the lock is down on the latch. It is hard to explain but if you look where the latch is.it should be an empty slot. If it look like there is a hook looking thing in the way, that's what you have to pull up on. hoped I helped
