Actually, in some circumstances, you have to do this. I know that some Dell models will not boot if your battery is dead, and the only way to boot it up is to remove the battery and run it off the cord.

i used to be a dell technician, it feels like a consumer-friendly concern that I even have considered many circumstances. generally on the 5100 sequence however. The actuall means plug jack it somewhat is soldered onto the motherbord could have come unfastened, if the means twine grow to be ever bumped troublesome. regrettably the only thank you to repair that concern is to get a sparkling mobo, so which you will could desire to call Dell. If its under warrenty it won't value you something to repair.
