trouble INSTALLING updates on my system running windows xp?
updates that are failing to install: Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 & Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1
what could be the reason that these updates are not installing? i am using 'windows automatic updates' ... could it be that i don't have these core things installed in the first place thus i cannot "UPDATE" them ?

Yes that is possible. There's nothing for windows to update if there's no program to build the updates on. You may want to install the original programs first; I assume they are in the optional section.

same problem not with microsoft xml core services,but with net framework 1.1 update,so i just check do not show this update again,went foward to net framework 2.0 and further,now i'm up to net framework 3.5 update most programs require you to have net framework 2.0 to download or higher
