How do you cope with kids home all day this summer?

I don't want to constantly entertain them but I want some ideas they can do on their own... They are 12, 10, 7 and 6. I don't let them go off on their own, and we do have a trampoline, but they get bored so very easily and want me to give them ideas... I have too much to do to constantly play with them all day.. BTW, I am an older mom, I turn 51 tomorrow, I raised 4 before these four, and I am just out of date with kids now...

they have really fun side walk chalk out now that comes with 3d glasses. it can be hours of entertainment!! also go to kraftfoods.com they have lots of fun summertime recipies for kids to do. you can get some finger paints and have them make your husband fathers day cards(outside) also you can get one of those inflateable pools. then you can read a book and they can play. good luck

That's the problem with many kids today, (I'm not saying all) they have no imagination, at least not in the sense of entertaining themselves. When I was a kid my parents never had to come up with games we were already in the back yard playing something kung fu, lol. So many people just want to give their children, a nintendo, tv, and say there you go, entertainment. Now sit and be happy. Some kids don't know what to do when it's not on. Sorry just a little vent there. I'm sure you didn't do this, but...

Anyways here's what I would do, tell them to go outside and play, of course keep your eye on them. Let them come up with something for themselves to do. You'd be surprised what they can come up with.

How about do some baking with them? If they are girls teach them how to sew, or knit or learn to do embroidery. Talk to your grand children, ask them to draw up a list of things they would like to do over summer. Then all sit down and plan a list of things to do week by week.

Don't be of the mind set that you are out of date and 51. I am 48 and I find that asking my children and grand children questions, helps me to get to know what they enjoy doing.
