I've had the same problem and you could eat off my floors! I use a hand-held steamer i the kitchen for a lot of my cleaning. It works really good around cracks and corners that are hard to clean using other methods. The vinegar and water spray is good for repelling ants, but don't use it if you have granite or other natural stone counters and floors.
Save any used coffee grounds and spread them around the foundation of the house, especially around the kitchen. Ants won't cross a chalk line, so if it's conceivable, draw a chalk line around your windows and anywhere else they can enter.
Put a few small bowls of cloves and cinnamon in your pantry. Ants don't like those spices and will avoid them.
If you can find ant hills outside, mix powdered sugar and instant grits and spread it over the ant hill. The workers will bring some back to their queen and the grits will kill her when they swell. The rest of the colony will die without a queen. I use this method because it works and is completely non-toxic. Safe to use around kids and pets.
In addition to food, ants need water, so check for leaks and wipe up spills to deprive them of that resource. Best wishes and good luck!

Combat ant traps or similar product. They have a poison that the ant carries back to the nest. It works for me every year. It does take a few days for them to work. I put mine in back of the kitchen sink (on top) or where I see the ants going.
Just be careful with kids and/or dogs. Put them high enough so they can't reach them. My dogs love to get them and chew them up (eating the poison at the same time). It is not enough to really hurt them, but it is still best to be safe.
