Which uses less of my graphics card power?

Always though it was basic, however when I change to it, it seemed like it was more graphic intense, for example how stuff opened and closed, etc.

There is no version of Windows Vista entitled 'standard' edition, but I presume you mean the interface or theme which you use on your computer. If this is correct, then Windows Vista Home Basic will be more graphically intensive because more 'eye candy' is having to be processed at any given time.
