How do you say they are going to go for a bike ride in french? i got the first part: Ils vont aller.......... I just donno the rest.

faire du vélo is correct, and better to say: ils vont faire du vélo

The phrase you want to use for taking a bike ride is "faire une promenade à vélo." So, you want to say "Ils vont faire une promenade à vélo"

I bet your teacher want you to use "promenade" as the second answerer told you.
"faire du vélo" is way more used when talking.
