Add these to the tax increase on tobacco products. But most don't understand what was imposed there, for even though manufactured cigarettes were increased dramatically, it pales in comparison to the taxes levied against 'home-made' cigarettes. Of course, the 'stick it to the rich' theme applies here, for most of those making their own cigs to cut expenses imposed already by the government are CEOs and the like, right? And don't get me started on the fact that all past, present, and future expenses related to health care of people who smoke were supposed to have been included in the 'settlements' ten years ago (even though government taxes for health care, insurance premiums, and states all charged or taxed prior to that with these figures included - can you say bait and switch?).
The federal government now taxes 'shake' tobacco at almost twenty-five dollars a lb., previously $1.06/lb., which more than doubles the price of these products. Michigan, never missing an opportunity to hit the 'rich', added another twenty-five dollars a pound, which tripled the amount paid for these products. The tubes used were tripled by taxes as well.
Yeah, those rich are getting what they deserve! (This is sarcasm, as I realize that some have trouble identifying it). Alcohol and soda are also consumed disproportionately by the poorer segments of society, but don't worry - the extemely poor and destitute got an increase in their food stamp benefits, and so they can 'sell food' to generate cash for tobacco. Besides, obesity is an emerging 'health crisis', and since it, too, is disproportionately stationed in the poorest of the poor who just happen to draw food stamp benefits, food consumption is next in line on the growing list of things YOUR government has determined is within the fold of their responsibilities to 'promoting the general welfare' state. Thus, certain food products deemed unhealthy will be taxed at 'corporate' levels (eat the rich), and most consumers have little or no clue that these taxes - like tobacco, alcohol, etc. - are passed down to them.
This process of isolating certain segments of the population, having the liberal media demonize what they consume, and then taxing them exhorborbitantly reaches tenacles into the lives of all Americans, but most rely on the 'defenders of truth' in mainstream media to form 'their own opinions'. Given liberal influences in virtually every informational outlet in American society at this time, it seems unlikely that the tide can be turned back. I would shed a tear for the state of our nation, but I am confident that there will be taxes on them (tears) as well soon enough, and they will be retroactive for sure.

That is how liberals fool the idiots. They may not raise income tax (but eventually they will) but they will raise taxes on every other tax already out there and then they will even create some new taxes. Obama is a liar, Obama is Anti American, Obama is a Marxist with fascist tendencies. Obama is the worst thing to ever happen to this country.

Who do you think is going to pay for all of the above?
We all are. The Fed buys Treasury bonds, then prints the debt. They pay for it by printing more money. The actual cost is then passed on to all Americans, rich, poor, middle class, by transferring a portion of the value of our money, to the newly printed money, by devaluing the dollar.
Unfortunately, it goes way beyond that. It floods the Treasury bond market, causing investors to pull out, and reinvest in commodities, spiking the price of crude oil and refined gasoline. Also will create a sharp rise in interest rates, which will kill home and car sales.

Taxing soft drink doesn't worry me since I stay away from that poison...same with alcohol. If you don't want to pay the tax on them I suggest you stay away from them too.
Increase in Medicare....how is that any different than the increases that have been happening in the past under other presidents?
It amazes me how quickly people forget that the majority of presidents have claimed "no new taxes" (remember Bush Sr.?) and then taxes rise during their presidency. Are the American public really this stupid and forgetful that they really expect there to be no rise in taxes ever?
Come on people....selective memory is not doing you any justice.
They already do tax something I like....in fact there are taxes on pretty much everything. Just wait...the next presidential election there will be a candidate who will promise no new taxes and then guess what...more taxes....just like every other president we've ever had. I just don't understand why the sudden outrage over taxes when we've been paying them our whole lives.
And guess what.....you soda drinkers are now feeling what it's like to have something you're addicted to taxed like tobacco smokers....not laughing about it now are you?

Obama, Tax increases, Economy, Obama plan hurts everyone, Obama lied about taxes, Truth about Obama tax plan
Barack Obama continues to state he will only tax incomes over $ 250,000 and that 95% of taxpayers will get a tax cut. Does it make sense to you that Obama will increase spending by more than a trillion dollars, increase taxes on business and that will be good for the economy. If you think about it for just a minute you will agree that it does not pass the
common sense, the smell test.

Only a fool would believe they will not pay some kind of price for the massive spending that will have to be done to pay for all that BO wants. Peace

He lied and the sheeple bought it as they lined up for the slaughter. Wait until the Bush tax cuts expire next year. Most of us will have our taxes go up about 13%.

He knows we all will and he knew he couldn't do all that he wanted without taxing everyone. That statement was a bold faced lie just to get elected..

... its more 'us against them' than 'help the American people'
