For careers in video games, you have a couple different options. You could be a programmer (one who makes the codes so the video games are possible), video game tester (self-explanatory), coordinator (controlling the movement in video games), sound designers (controls music and sound effects), producer (works with the money and how to spend it to better the video games and such), game designer (make sure the game is fun pretty much), PR manager (promote video games).

You can also use your degrees in video gaming outside of video games so it wouldn't be wasted.

There aren't too many bad schools for it. Might I suggest Boston University's MET, though? Seems like a really good school around your area.

You can find a few ways to get paid testing the newest video games. There are some companies who can send you currently being developed games, game consoles and products so that you can test them. Then you record your thoughts and then they send you payment. The hardest part is finding these companies.

Most of the schools are good. It doesn't matter if you are not good at drawing or writing now because those are all skills you can acquire later, it just takes practice and time. It is a hard industry to break into so you really have to want it and have a passion for it. If you believe this is something you want to get into you better eat breathe and dream it 24/7 and do your research. Also look on google for free beta tester applications to get you started. There are a lot of online games in the beginning stages I think your too late for battlefield heroes, but there are plenty more to give you some experience finding bugs and reporting them!! Good luck!

The problem is... nobody "makes" video games. Have you read the "credits" of the games you play recently? They are more than dozens, now, like HUNDREDS, spanning multiple companies. And they can all say "I helped make game ______". From testers up to "game designer". So just what do you want to do? Please don't say "I want to make games". That's about as helpful as "I want to make cars". You want to work on an assembly line of cars? You want to fix cars? You want to design cars? Tweak engines? Race cars? Whatever else? Coding is programming. It's "writing code". That's a part of making a game (a very large part). EDIT: You can work on one then the other, one at a time. Basically, you'll be hired to do a project, which could be single player or MMORPG. If you are good, you will be asked to join the next team which may have already started, or you'll be recruited for some other job at some other company, and keep going from place to place with hopefully equal or better opportunities, but you'd be basically doing the "same"... either you're making something... or you're managing someone making something. :)

you could be a video game tester.... that would be your best bet... but i don't know that's just my best guess.

I wouldn't recommend a career in video games though. Go with something similar but not like it. For instance:

shooters - maybe military (some people don't like)

RPG's - be a psychiatrist and tell people what you think they should do next in life

Adventure - be a botanist and explore jungles somewhere...

really you can make any kind of career out of a video game... it just matters what you personally are into...

I depends on what part of the video game industry you want to be in. If you can't write or draw...that pretty much just leaves programming....which is very in depth and tedious at times. Look into Full Sail. It's a tech school in Orlando, FL. I was thinking about going there for Stage Production but decided to get my degree first in M.I.S.

No talent in art and an inability to write a story line will not help your desire...and may even harm it.

That being said...contact some publishers in the industry and ask they what kind of education and skills they look for when hiring people to work *on* the games.

Now on the other hand, if you'd be happy shuffling paper in the Business Office of a Games Publisher, then there you go. :D

    Good Luck!
