What can I use to replace the old melamine surface on my damaged worktop?

I know the answer is to have a new worktop fitted, but it's too expensive and money is short at the moment. Any suggestions other than sticky back plastic would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Easy way would be to tile the counters. Cheaper than new counters and will give the kitchen a face lift.

You can also buy large granite tiles and install them very close together with a color matching grout. This will make the kitchen look great from a distance. Not as good as a granite slab, but hey your on a budget.

Shop on Craigslist.com under 'materials' for new counter top that would fit your space from someone selling it in your area.. Many times you can find great stuff much less than you would pay 'new'.

    Just go to Craigslist.com

    Choose your state

    Choose your city

Go to the 'For Sale' Section and look for 'materials'

    Click on materials

type in counter tops or granite or melamine (whatever you want)

and check out what is available

Put a cutting board insert in the current top near the sink where you get the most wear. Then paint the rest. Heres some links to paint
